The highest ranked team Virginia has played and beaten was 11th ranked E Carolina. Pepperdine has played and beaten #4 Cal State Fullerton and #11 U C Irvine.
I'm on your side, but this argument is dumb. LSU played a team with a better OOC than Virginia. Our over all schedule isn't as good. They played 3 with the #19 East Carolina.
Now the fact they lost to 3-7 Wright state makes their whole thread about will they be #1 really funny.

Our SEC schedule is stronger than Virginia's ACC schedule.
I don't see how you can be confident of this at this point.
We had 6 teams ranked in the top 15 at preseason and this past weekend with three big ACC-SEC matchups:
FSU pounded UGA
Clemson took 2 of 3 from USC
Florida took 2 of 3 from Miami
At the very least, our conferences are neck in neck if not us being slightly ahead at this point.
I inferred you were talking about us when you mentioned "northern" schools. Makes sense since you were talking about Virginia in the first place.

I was just in VA last week. It might have been part of the confederecah, but it is definitely north if the amount of fricking snow all over the place was any indication.

Third and most importantly this isn't college football where only 2 teams play for a national title, you have 64 teams playing to go to the world series, so have weak OCS or strong OCS you still will have a shot to play for the national title.
But unlike basketball where the regular season doesn't matter. Seeds matter for Supers in baseball. Being #1 for a good portion of the season (particularly late) is important.

Virgina people don't know what real baseball is like.

I was suprised when I looked up Virginia's attendance... They average 1,800 a game. 29th in nation... They don't even follow their "#1" team
1. The size of Baton Rouge (not to mention having NOLA one hour away) alone would give us a higher attendance.
2. We're a smaller school than you.
3. We don't have the history that LSU baseball has. We're new to this thing
4. We have #1 Lax and other sports competing for interest.

So all the higher ranked teams won. FSU won big and may have a shot at jumping us and being # 1 when the polls come out. There closest game so far this year was when they pounded Florida 10-5 and Florida got 4 in the 9th.
Georgia was looking good until this weekend (12-1, 9-2, 17-5)
Good thing they'll fold in the regionals/supers

Your assumption is that the baseball committee looks at these polls when seeding teams. They don't. Like basketball, they use an RPI along with a number of other factors. Polls are irrelevant.
How often were we #1 in these polls last year?

Virginia may not be considered the north, but go back and look at their weather pattern for the past month. Not conducive to good baseball. Of course they play more out of town games at this time of year, otherwise they would be cancelling a lot of home games due to inclement weather.
Not only that, the Tigers can make more money playing at home, bigger crowds, no travel expenses. Why would they want to go play Ohio State in February in front of five hundred people, if they could get the game in at all.

yep. I don't for a second believe they completely ignore them. I also believe they are a good indication of what people on the committee are thinking. You know.. kinda like a poll or experts.

We were #2 in BA when they seeded... We got our super and were #1 after UCI lost there regional to Virginia.

To be fair, most thought Pepperdine would beat LSU at least once...LSU proved the detractors wrong.
Anyone who thinks Pepperdine isn't a quality opponent is a clown.

According to a conversation a few years ago with Skip, those polls don't even enter the room. They know that those voters don't get to see the vast majority of teams due to the lack of coverage. Those polls are a huge crapshoot.

The winner of the SEC gets a top 8 seed. More times than not (like Florida last year), the SEC gets a 2nd team in the top 8.
Polls are irrelevant. But believe what you want.

Oh, and just to be clear, I am not being critical of LSU baseball here, so everyone needs to calm down a little.
We're barely into March and people are already getting testy with baseball.
We'll all get a better idea of where our teams stand once conference play starts.

Going with the size, history, and newness of quality baseball; keep in mind their stadium holds about 3,000 people. That's not a bad fill average, all things considered.

Also, northern schools want/need to play in the south in Feb. and March.
I'm pretty sure this is in reference as to why the Brown's and William & Mary's make a tour of the south at the beginning of the season, not necessarily calling Virginia the north.

They may not be openly discussed, but if your saying no one in the room has looked at the polls throughout the year your out of you mind.

historically, it may be "southern", but not present day

Our schedule is really good overall. And the OOC schedule is not a cakewalk either. Anyone that disagrees is wrong.
