Some Top 10 Coaching Stats-LK

Fun Fact: LK will be the 2nd coach in AP Poll history to coach in a Top 10 matchup against a team he previously coached last season. Can you name the 2nd?
Sad Facts/ Facts that need to change during his tenure here:
He is 4-15 total in Top 10 AP/CFP matchups
He is 1-8 on the road. (His only win on the road was #4 Oregon in 2011)
He is 2-5 at home. (22' #7 UK and 24' #3 UGA)
He is 1-2 at neutral-site games (23' #10 Penn State- Peach Bowl)

The majority of these losses were dealt by Alabama (5) and UGA (3)
The only other two losses since 2020 in top-10 matchups were to Baylor (2021) and Florida (2020).
All the others were around 2009-2012 when he had the USC and UTk job. Different man entirely.... Am I right??

Dan Mullen comes to mind, but I don’t think State was in top 10.
I think Mullen left State as top 25 team and then State and Florida met the next season with both teams in top 25.

The original coach to do this in AP Poll history was Johnny Majors. After coaching the Pittsburgh Panthers to an undefeated national championship season in 1976, he left his position to take over his alma mater, the Tennessee Volunteers, for the 1977 season. Early in that 1977 season, he had to coach against the very same Pitt team he had just led to a title the prior year.

1977 Tennessee was also 4-7 (1-5) and lost 2 of 3 to start the season so highly doubt they were approaching being a top 10 team.

You need to recognize these type of stats are heavily biased by the situations coaches took them over in.
For example, Tennnessee was coming off a 5-7 season the year Lane took them over.
He took over a program at USC that was almost immediately put on sanctions and down 10 scholarship players moving forward.
He then took over FAU and built them up.
He took over an Ole Miss program that showed flashes here and there, but overall were a disaster in the 4 years before he came to town and his first year was Covid year.
In the end, even this year at LSU, he is having to rebuild the team basically, and although its easier to do now, still is going to lead to potential growing pains.
We will see what happens though.
