There's nothing wrong with the NIT. It's not like LSU is in the CBI.

We should have much more out of our guards next year if Gray and Hornsby are as good as advertised. Not to mention Malik Morgan coming back from injury and Quarterman having a year under his belt.
Don't know much about Gray & Hornsby. Like Morgan a lot, not real crazy about Quarterman, but he can improve.

I'm assuming we have Hickey and Martin back, possibly Mickey as well.
Why would they not be back?

Trent's knock has always been recruiting. Not fundamentals. He left Stanford bare. He left LSU bare. Johnny Jones is building that talent level back up.

Please go look at the history behind the UNT program prior to him going there and where he left it. I'm not even gonna dumb down enough to argue with you on that point. I read today that UNT will likely put Johnny Jones into their Athletics Hall of Fame one day.
Who cares what they did before? Its the frickin Sun Belt Conference. A SEC level coach would rise to the top, at least win it once in 11 damn years. Its not like he was in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was in the suburbs of Dallas with a huge talent pool available to him, as well as more financial resources than most SBC schools. Please, dumb that down for everyone
You are leading us to beleive its ok for teams not to achieve, because their predecessors sucked.

He actually did win it in 2009-2010. It was the first regular season championship in the programs entire history.

He had Tony Mitchell his last few years at UNT too.
But, I know it's the Sunbelt and you'll probably dismiss this, but for most of the years he was at UNT, no one was going to win the conference but Western Kentucky. Back to back sweet 16s a couple of years ago and were head and shoulders ahead of the other teams most years.

He won the West that year at 13-5.
Troy and Middle Tennessee were 13-5 also in the East.

I applaud your enthusiasm for the program, I just don't think there is any evidence that Jones is an NCAA level coach based on what I have seen the past 2 years along with his coaching history. I would be more lenient if he was new to being a head coach, but he is not.
It should be NCAA or bust next year for LSU, but with a spineless AD like Alleva, Jones will probably have plenty more time to make Peach Bowls, I mean NITs. Sadly, we will soon be looking up at Auburn

You don't think he's good enough to coach a college team? Or he's not good enough to consistently be in the tourney?

They hit a home run today.

Johnny Jones will have 4-5 years, as he should, to get this program on very solid footing. I believe he will continue to recruit better and better and the results will follow on the court. We still have serious talent issues, specially at guard, that should be solved next season.

Tourney team. Sorry, I was editing from SEC level coach, but then realized it was a bad comparison. I think Johnny is more of a USL/Tulane level coach. I would pull for him wherever
Guy belongs in the coaching profession, just will never deliver what LSU aspires for

All good I figured that's what you meant, but I wasn't sure.
I like him too and hope it works out, we will see.

That's true but it doesn't make him a coaching genius. Just look at what TCU is doing.

Nevermind, looked like someone corrected you.

Based on what exactly? He has only had 2 years at a major school.

You're making my point for me if you think Trent sucks at coaching. If that's the case then the only reason he won at Stanford and his first year here was because of the talent.
Brings me back to my point that recruiting is the most important part of college basketball. Johnny is bringing in talent.

Ben Simmons will make everyone happy CJJ can recruit.

The only reason he won at Stanford was because the Lopez twins lived in his backyard.
As for his first season at LSU, he had a veteran team in a season where the SEC may have been the weakest it had ever been.

So the talent won rather than his coaching?

Yes.
Like I said, every now and then you will hit it with recruiting and get players that transcend the team. Trent had that with the Lopez brothers. But even for good recruiters, more often than not, you're going to get talent but they will be raw. That's where coaching comes in.
Whether Johnny can do that or not remains to be seen.
If you can't understand that, then I'm sorry.
