Oregon is a run first team, passing is not their strong point, so bragging on stopping their passing game isn't really the best argument. WVU is built around the passing game and is waiting for the Freshmen RB's to start carrying their weight.

I don't think being able to defend against Oregon passing 60 times is the same as 4-5 Wide 60 times against WVU. Thats our mantra. Oregon was apparently forced into it.

Either way I expect a good game that is won very late in the game.... somewhere around 27-24 or so.

God you people are delusional... Oregon passed for 3100 yards and 31 TDs last year and WVU passed for 2700 and 27 TDs (i think)... So how exactly are you better?

LSU runs a nickle defense most of the time.

You do realize we run a completely new offense right? Or did you miss that?

The threat of a running game is very much related to how we defend the passing game. That was the point of my comment.

Exactly! With the threat of a potent running attack, we had to game plan to stop both the run and the passing attack. We stuffed the run and only let them get little dinks and dunks passing, while allowing no big break out plays - a mainstay of the Oregon offense. Since WVU is primarily a passing team, the game plan and practice all week has been able to focus on stopping the pass.

I like this match up. Our strength against their strength. As noted by others, WVU's passing attack will be heading into a meat grinder - the best and deepest secondary in the country. Couple that with a deep and talented defensive line that will force quick and perfect passes by the QB and I think LSU wins big.

Nice write up, but I just personally cant see this being any more of a test than we already had... I understand they are not simply gonna walk out on the field and forfeit... but, no way they are more talented than Oregon, and if anything has changed in 3 wks., we have got better!! Sorry, it will be a blow out.... they will be broken and defeated, another pile of walked on dreams and broken spirits in a trail of many to be left in the Tigers wake this special season... we will talk Sunday

If that's the case, I'm pretty excited to see what this secondary can do against something that wide open. Not to mention we'll get to see a lot of line play with no TE chipping our DEs constantly. I also listened to Holgerson a bit yesterday talk about his offense. Dude sounds like he's got his shite together he just needs the horses to run it. He talked a lot about tempo and rhythm and how you can't let the defense figure out either one. They run a lot of quick hits, screens and slants so this will be an entirely different look than anything this defense has faced so far. Our defense will get tested and it can do nothing but make us better for down the road for a team like Arkansas. Oh, and an impressive state to note: Geno Smith has 539 pass attempts in 3 years and only 9 INTs. His completion % has been in the high 60s his whole career. This kid makes good decisions and doesn't turn the ball over much. Our defense is going to get more tested than many, including me, would like to believe. I can't wait.

Most knowledgeable post I've seen so far about our team. One more thing to the Geno interception stats. He had a fluke game where he threw 3 picks in the first half against Syracuse last year. The pick he threw this year was the wide receiver's fault not Geno's. So take away that pick and that half against Geno and that is 4 interceptions in the last 15.5 games.

You've got to understand the history of the other WVU fans coming over here last year.... we all have a bunch of respect for Geno, and half of the board was hoping we could hire Holgerson when Crowton was gone.....

Respect isn't the problem. We never said you aren't good. We just have a defense with at least 13 future NFL players that get major reps..... you'll see the difference Saturday.

So a completely new offense that has only been tested on scrubs is going to throw up and down the field on this defense? I'm not being a homer or nothing but I honestly don't understand how some of you Mountaineer fans can think that. LSU fans aren't just being ridik about this defense for no reason.

It's almost as if I came up with the notion that LSU is going to throw for 400 yards on your defense, but we aren't doing that because that would be retarded

i love watching our defense play a spread option. i think the only kind of team that will really be able to beat us is a power running team such as Alabama
