Last week, everyone was calling for White's head...now it's Donte. It is possible for players to not play amazing every game. Donte should have made the tackle, but almost all the throws he's been beat on this year were absolutely great throws.

That Hurts throw to start the 2nd half...literally no corner would have stopped that ball. He allowed a fluke play, everybody needs to breathe.

Lets not forget the THREE penalties on him during the Ol Miss game.
And just for the record, I went back and watch the game again and all were legit calls against him.

Donte this year has been >>>>>>> Tolliver. Tolliver has the size and is more physical but does not make good plays on the ball. He's been getting beat most games he's played in on nearly every deep pass.

Jump on Donte all you want, the WR made a more desperate play. We should have had a center fielder on that play anyway. Why leave the entire field empty behind the man-to-man DB's in that situation? WR just made a great play.

As for the fumble, why the fck was Moore standing there looking and not blocking. The ball was knocked out by a blocker who was not moving the wrong dmn way.

End of the day, you should be asking why our offense can't score more than 10-13 points against good defense with Danny Etling. So glad next week will be his last in a meaningful game.

Jackson has great speed and is a tremendous athlete, but his coverage skills seem to be lacking in recent games.

Not making any excuses for Jackson but Tolliver was not getting it done either earlier in the season.

I am not sure if Tolliver is not nursing an injury or if he never fully came back from surgery he had last off-season.

Donte would have been beaten more this yr if he didn't pummel wr's prior to the ball's arrival

I would like to see proof of this so called great speed in games. He often seems to be in bad position on the receiver and can't recover in time.

That WR threw Donte to the ground like he was a child

No he didn't. Not even close.

The fact that the ball was underthrown caused Donte to over-run the play a little when the receiver paused to catch it. He was then way off balance when he tried to grab the receiver and pull him down. He was definitely not thrown down. Just way out of position to make the tackle because he regrettably tried to make a play on the ball.

I responded to a similar thread earlier after watching the highlights again. Worst thing he did was letting Cleveland get a step on him. After that, he was forced to over-react... Hindsight is 20/20 and instead of trying to break up the pass, it would have been better to just go for the sure tackle or just commit PI to prevent the completion.

My earlier post, with link to espn highlights (if they haven't been moved) included:

Just watched the highlights again. Here's a link... forward to about the 1:35 mark of the 4:22 highlight clip to see the TD play.

Actually, there's a 52 second clip titled GATORS TAKE LEAD ON 98-YARD TD PASS towards the bottom of the page, which shows two perspectives.

Based on the clips, I disagree on a couple of points:
1) Donte did, in fact, turn his head and saw the ball in the air at a certain point.
2) This almost certainly couldn't have been intercepted. Realistically, based on the location of both Cleveland and Donte Jackson when he spots the ball, I don't think many all pro NFL corners would have been able to catch up to the receiver without over-running him as Jackson did and simultaneously worked from inside the receiver to outside position to be in a position to intercept that ball... or even just straight-up leapt up and snatched the ball from in front of him unless he were a foot taller.

I can only guess what should have been happening on that play.

I don't know if Jackson was supposed to jam or not. He didn't.

I don't know if he was purposefully trailing (knowing he had closing speed) or if he got beat by a step. But that was part of the problem.

At that point, it was just luck (for UF) that the QB underthrew it by a half-step. The slight underthrow caused Cleveland to slow up just a hair just when Jackson sped up. And the underthrow actually gave Jackson a slight chance to break it up, which he tried to do... But in doing so, he slightly over-ran Cleveland, got off balance and put himself in a worse position to make the tackle. I think if the ball weren't underthrown, Jackson wouldn't have had any chance to play the ball, but would have been in a much better position to tackle Cleveland by his legs and prevent the TD.

If... Jackson weren't a step behind when the ball was thrown, there's a better chance he could have broken the pass play up. I still don't think he could've intercepted it barring a spectacular, perfectly timed effort.

Hinsight is 20/20. Looking at the replay, Donte's best play was to just plow into the receiver to prevent a catch and take the penalty.

I would have Donte Jackson speak in front of the team on tell the truth Monday with the big screen behind him on why he cost his team 10 points Sat.

Dude relax. In sports some days you just go out and suck. His teammates dont need a public apology from a guy who made 2 mistakes in a game full of them

By the way, can we list the CB's with actual INT's this year?

Donte is an undersized athlete who doesn't have the instincts to be superb at the position. He needs to be on the offensive side of the ball.

That wasn't the first time he got burnt that game. Luckily Appleby over threw in the first half. Donte Jackson is our Brandon Browner it seems

Donte jackson is just really raw. I think he will become a pretty damn good corner. Tolliver will get better. He has elite skills. Everybody calm down. And if those don't work out we have Xavier Lewis, Saivion Smith, Kristian Fulton, and Kary Vincent. We're stacked at corner.

Agree. Donte Jackson actually does a pretty good job. Only reason at all it seems otherwise is that Tre White is better polished and QBs avoid him a little more... meaning they pick on Donte a little more. But if Donte gives up a few more plays, I've also seen him make some really athletic plays. And he's definitely still improving.

The long TD was just a one off lucky play by UF. DJ could have done a couple things better, but it was the heat of the moment and he went for the pass break-up instead of making sure he'd be in a better position to make the tackle. It sucks, but hopefully he'll learn from it.

Do you or anyone else think next season, someone else could develop in that corner spot, like Fulton, or one of the incoming recruits, so that maybe both Jackson and Tolliver could become second string corners?

Or will this additional year's experience help both these players. Both were pretty highly rated DB's when they were recruited, and Jackson has been an outstanding track performer in the past.
