So does anyone on here think that Lee or Hatch will be worse than the in 04 after Mauck left?

Will our qb play be worse than that?
Well if Hatch is the starter and remains the starter, YES, I think the position will be worse than 04. Randall at least was very athletic running. Hatch can run but likley isn't as athletic as Randall. Hatch's passing ability is also going to limit our play calling, much like Randall.

We have nothing to base this off of.........we don't even know what our qbs are capable of.

Did anybody think Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford would lay up 29 and 36tds in the frosh seasons......hell no.

I'm not ready to make any judgements on our qbs until I see them peform in the game!

That's what I'm preparing for...not worse, but the same.

God I hope not.

Do you think any of our QB's will duplicate performances like those?

Have you seen Hatch throw 5 passes?

How do you know his passing ability is going to limit our play calling?

Hatch is pretty athletic. The kid can run pretty good from what I seen in practices and scrimmages. Hopefully, the season will give us more on the running and passing situation.

Gilbeau has had a stick where the sun doesn't shine basically since CLM came on board. If you read his stuff on a regular basis - as I do in the Alexandria Town Talk - it seems that he is mad that practices are closed to the media. I think this anger - or frustration, or whatever you want to call it - colors his judgment sometimes.

Were you at Saturday's scrimmage. Didn't think so. I was. Apparently you also missed the spring game. He threw a lot more than 5 passes. I've also seen the practice footage.

If Guilbeaux is wrong he should be writing Obituaries in Mississippi in Jan 2009. Writing crap to get noticed is just wrong.

He should be run out the state if he is resorting to negative sensationalism. By the way... we had no proven QB to start the 07 season either after JR left.

Tell you what buddy, let me come watch you work one day on a random day. For any little frick up you make on that one specific day, I will judge your entire work ability because of that mistake you made on that one day I observed.

I know you "snuck" into the scrimmage on Saturday. But to judge an entire season on one scrimmage performance might just be the most ranter of all ranter things I've read here in a long time. That is more like king ranter!

All hail King ranter of the Universe!

As if you have the "upper hand" on the rest of the LSU world that knows ZERO about how these guys are going to work out.

I think it is very possible. The superior talent around those Freshman qb's made that possible. Whoever our strater is will have time in the pocket and open recvrs to throw to. Just a little game of pitch and catch, right?

They are just getting their feet wet, and it's against some pretty good players on D. Once they get more relaxed(performing in the first three games), whatever talent they have will be easier to determine.

Crowton, who is known for evaluating and developing QB's, recruited Hatch. Was he THAT wrong?

Guilbeau seems to like to paint negative pictures.

Helms has also said positive things about both QB's. While I expect Helms and Byrd to be "good teammates", they could have said, "they are improving with experience".

Reality is probably somewhere in between. Some plays will look good, while others will show their inexperience.

I seriously doubt that. Gilbeau, most properly pronounced "Dildeaux", is a liar and a hypocrite. When the LSU quarterbacks perform better than he's predicting this season, he'll act like he never said that crap. He uses every opportunity to criticize the LSU teams and coaches, and then when they do well, loves to jump on the bandwagon.

What a prick!!

Sorry, can't buy that. I'm not one of these super sensitive LSU fans whose emotions flash on "Dead Red" every time somebody makes a critical comment about the Tigers, but Guilbeau has demonstarted a consistent m.o. of almost always painting anything about the LSU football program in the dimmeswt possible light.

Anybody who has read the dude's columns over the last 2-3 yrs. should have picked up on that, imo.

Please don't depend on the Fastest Hour guys or Guilbeau and 20 minutes of practice per day to evaluate QBs. Let's leave that to Crowton.

What is byrd going to say. "The qb's are highly inexperienced, having a little problems with their accuracy and pocket presence.
