m pretty dissapointed in you if you think because we lost 2 of 3 to vandy we are suddenly struggling......have you been watching games? we have played 50+ games and lost 2 sec series since aub way back when....they have been consistent...
our bats are our weakness.

seriously .. have you seen eades last few SEC starts ? he hasn't been dominant since the arkansas series .. do you really feel confident in him right now ?

I feel extremely confident with our pitching staff. Eades isnt making or breaking us bro.......we have to score runs.....weve been living on the 1 run win for the year.

I would. hard to climb out of a regional if you lose one. Especially since we don't have a great "4th" starter and weak bats.

IN 09, going with Ross was the right call against southern, because you just knew our bats would put up enough if we had to. I'm not so sure going with Nola or Eades against the 4 seed would secure victory.

Plus, in 09 we had two automatic wins with Coleman and Ranaudo. Not the case with these guys. These guys are good, but not as good as Coleman and Ranaudo.

that's my concern .. we just don't have that automatic, steady one-two punch on the mound with starters like we had in 2009 .. i am looking at this from the pure perspective of an omaha run .. this team needs a trey hodges to come out of nowhere in late may and june really bad ..

Before you summarily fire a coach, you had better have someone else in mind. I do not think Maineri is a great coach. Yes he won it once but we have not had him build on that and recreate our program like we wanted.

I just think that once he won the CWS, he just wanted to go all over the country and give speeches and hobnob with Tommy Lasorda and the other coaches in the conference outworked him.
I would like someone else but no sure just who at this point because this team is going nowhere ....

Related question, doesn't PM like to play that game Friday afternoon? Wish he'd move it back to Friday night.

We play that game on Friday afternoon because it gives us the most time to rest before the saturday game.

Lets just say we kept playing that game at night...what if it went into extras and we lost? we would have to turn around and play at 10 a.m. the next moring.

by playing that first game, it gives our team the longest amount of rest before playing again. And by hosting a regional, the 1 seed SHOULD take advantage of everything they can.

i completely agree with this .. we're just not hitting the ball in succession or with RISP consistently enough .. you can't keep putting game after game in the laps of your bullpen .. we'll need a 12-0 win in game one or two of the regional to conserve pitching for the rest of the weekend ..

If we couldnt even use Eades or Nola without decent confidence against a 4th seed type of team like Southern then we really have no shot to advance anyway.

We will have to go for it at some point in the post-season. The point is not too win a game or two and be happy we got that far. Last time I checked we are LSU and we try to win regionals in the post-season.

We've been playing the Friday afternoon regional game for as long as I can remember, back to Skip.

I love this discussion every year. Unless we're facing a 4 w/ a true ace, you save him for game 2. If we can't beat a 4 w/ Eades, Nola or McCune we're not going too far anyway. We haven't lost a midweek all year, right? That's about the level team we'll be facing as a 4. Save KG for the drivers seat game.

Yep, you have to assume Eades/Nola, can beat Southern or whoever it is we are playing Friday.

I understand why it's done. Selfishly I wish we'd play at night. Skip never worried about having an extra 3 hours rest, seemed to work out.

I remember skip making it a point to move our game back, so more fans could make it. This may go back to the 6 team regionals tho. Can't remember exactly how he handled it w/ the new format.

maineri is a good coach whether we drop 2 of 3 or get swept. i think he's a great fit at LSU and it would be a mistake running him off. having said that, he needs to recruit better hitters and imo, needs to hold his hitting coach responsible for the mediocre performance this year. i keep seeing the same mistakes over and over that a competent college hitter should not make or rarely should make. PRIME EXAMPLE: yesterday, a hitter took a 3-1 fastball right down the middle. disgusting. the player is a friggin' starter. also, our #2 hole hitter looks like he's ready for the paddy wagon with his awful approach at the plate. it's only a guess, but often when hitters are being worked at the plate by average pitchers it is because of over coaching (ie, paralysis by analysis).

As long as LSU continues to get large crowds at the games he keeps his job for as long as he wants

interesting that you say this .. because actual attendance has slipped markedly since 2009 .. just saying this since this is your criteria (which i tend to agree with you is definitely a factor) ... this is why doing well in the post season could be pretty important this year .. if he can't get out of a regional this year, attendance will continue to slip next year ...

Dude, I see what you're saying, but remember it is the sport of baseball.

If you remember correctly, our bats struggled pretty bad against Southern back in '09 until late in the game. We also lost to UNO several times that season. Also, Appy st. whipped our arse. It's not unfathomable to think Mccune wouldn't frick it up.

FWIW, I'm fine with Eades or Nola going against southern. I just don't want PM to go full retard like he tends to do sometimes and start McCune.

I agree, I think PM is a good coach. The staff has struggled to recruit good hitters for the last couple of yrs. Our hitting coach needs to hit the road. We have 2 maybe 3 solid hitters in this lineup. We have 3 Seniors on this team that are batting under 300 that is fricking terrible. If we address this hitting problem I think we should be fine. Yea Eades has struggled but this last start wasnt that bad we just can't hit the fricking ball. I think little Nola will be a good pitcher in the coming yrs. If you can't hit well then you'd better have a great pitching staff and right now we don't have either and thats why I think we don't make it past a Super Reg. this yr.
