Again, if you start making conclusions based on what teams did against other teams, then you will get nowhere
it's like somebody pointed out earlier, and i tried this early in the season
this isn't the first game this year that we've said, "man that QB played really well against us," who has not met that performance level against other teams. how else can we compare the teams we play?

The feeling I had after last night was the feeling I had after the South Carolina game last year...team played flat.
or the tulane game last year. that tulane team was horrible and they were actually leading for a few minutes. i wouldn't get too worked up yet. i expect the D to look much better against UF

14 points is 14 points...not a lot.
We couldn't come up with a big stop against Auburn when it counted. We saw that again last night. And we saw it several times last season.
Having a solid, but not great defense, is good enough to win it all like last year. But I don't get how some fans think our defense is great. We've done nothing to earn that label last year and so far this year.

Miss State got 3 points after their long kickoff to start the game...they also score after our fullback fumbled and they had less than 50 yards to drive. Sure, we had some breakdowns, but also did last year.
It happens...we just aren't going t crush teams 45-0 every week.
To me, if just matters that we got the Win...nothing else matters.

AU- 14 pts on the road, not to shabby.
The 14 points Auburn's offense scored against us is more than they've scored in both of their other two SEC games combined...against two teams that are a combined 0-4 in SEC.

MSU- dinking it to the RB's is something that can easily be fixed.
Then what does that say about a defense that doesn't fix it?
quote:
a slight schematic adjustment.
Coaches do not change their schemes. It's matter of defending their manhood. Changing means admitting they were wrong. They don't do that.
quote:
They also didnt break 300 yards of total offense, which is usually a good DEf effort
The worst offense in the SEC, and probably the worst offense of any BCS league team, getting anywhere close to 300 exposes whatever defense allowed it to happen as average or worse.
I hope the problems on our defense are correctable. They don't seem to be, since they appear to be mostly talent and scheme related, but I hope they are.
But until the major problems on our defense are corrected, we do not have a great defense. We don't even have a good one. If you wanted to be charitable and ignore the fact that Louisiana Tech's defense performed better than ours did against MSU, you could say we have an average defense right now. Last night's game, which was far below what even an average defense should do against MSU, does not define this defense, so I am still hoping we are actually an average defense that has a chance to improve.
But the words "good" and "great" do not apply to this defense, period.

Auburn scored two offensive TD's...that is two drives. Not sure how many drives they had overall, but they only scored on two. You statement makes no sense.
quote:Our defense is definitely not great...nor was it great last year, after the first half of the South Carolina game. Doesn't matter...we are unbeaten this year.
But I don't get how some fans think our defense is great.

we aren't really crushing teams like that
the first game against appy state had 1 great half and we really didn't do much in the 2nd (with our starters in)
the 2nd game had like 1 drive, and the coaches kept trying to have drives, but it was a "work on it" game
Auburn was Auburn

Scott is currently the most important player on the team. Why was he running the ball with 2:30 on the clock and up by 10?
Because we needed to keep the ball and run out the clock, otherwise our defense would give up another long TD drive and we could lose the game.

USC defense is great right?
Ohio St. defense is great right?
Georgia defense is great right?
How about Mizzou? Great right?
I need someone to compare our defense with another teams defense. What defense in the country would you rather have. Ill take ours. Dont expect perfection guys, it will never happen.

We are overlooking the obvious, UT's D gave up only 7 points, AU scored on yet another Arian Foster fumble ~ a gimme 5-yards from the endzone. UT's D definitely played AU better than LSU's. With a decent QB UT wins that game. If LSU doesn't create ways to bring pressure against UF, UGA, and Bama (excellent O line) it will not be pretty.

Our team did enough to win the game.

i'd hope so
we're a top 3 talent team
MSU is the 2nd worst team in the SEC this year

SLOWPROFLOW I think you are wrong. All recruits in the SEC are studs and a QB like Lee can hurt a D, even if The D is top notch. A key scramble on the first Td in the second half is one of those things that happen. The D broke down when the pressure came and he got the first down on pure chance. Second TD are LB's were getting picked and on the key third down made a great pass to the sidelines for a first down. Georgias defense is not going to give up 31 in many games and Alabama took advantage of stupid Georgia mistakes and turnovers and the QB made some great plays. The LSU D is fine.

you wanna make a bet that lee and MSU's offense look absolutely horrible at least 4 more times this year?

I agree, all of the sudden this defense sucks. LSU is going to lose 4 games this season because they gave up 24 points against Miss St.
There's no possible way that maybe the gameplan on defense may not have been the best? Can no one give credit to Miss. St for having a good offensive plan?
Different game plans for different teams every week. Everyone here is acting like the defense is the least talented as it's ever been at LSU.
You guys have no patience whatsoever and are incredibly sensitive and ready to call of the season after one game. A win at that. It's retarded.
There's so much talent on the defensive side of the ball, regardless of the numbers, that there will be better games. Don't concede that entire side of the fricking ball because they had a game where you guys thought should hold a team to under 200 yards.

We have 6 new players starting on our D. USC has the best d in the nation and Oregeon St ran the hell over them. Sure our D has issues but they are correctable ones. Everybody need to chill out.

Generally speaking, LSU's defense played lights out for most of the first half--with great intensity. It looked like MSU was in store for an atrocious game. I think that intensity, coupled with quick scoring and consecutive turnovers on LSU's part (plus, the injuries to two starters, which hurt depth) tired the defense.

why is LSU always the first team that these teams develop these great offensive plans against?
you saw the same commentary with AU last week, and everyone was talking about how their shitty offense had turned the corner, then UTenn's D almost completely shuts them down (226 yards and 7 points)

very few people have done this

this isn't about one game
our D hasn't lived up to the hype in any game this year. do you think it has?
Posted on 9/28/08 at 10:50 am to tigerbill002
probably a good thing our defense feels they need to be dominant for the next game, seeing as how its in gainesville. but what pisses me off and makes us look bad is the fact that were giving up 20+ points to teams who dont ususally score half of that against decent defenses. alot of it is due to lack of some fundamentals and our youth at the cb and lb spot is showing.
