I’ve seen cases where patients had to be intubated after being pushed 3 epi’s and multiple doses of steroids, intravenous benedryl and pepsid. It depends on the reaction. If it is the first time, it is even more complex bc they have to figure out the “why”. What if he has a chronic mast cell disorder that is onset by his body chemistry and exasperated by temperature? Common may not be so “common” when it comes to reactions. Some people are allergic to one thing like nuts or animal dander, etc. while others who may need ICU level care may not be allergic to anything but still have reactions. Lupus for example is an incurable autoimmune illness that impacts 95% women that makes them “allergic to the sun”. There are many others that I can speak with some intelligence on due to family members having these illnesses where most hospitals don’t know how to treat them like one with a rare Mast Cell disorder.
The field of immunology is very fascinating.

There are many forms of allergic reactions for many different reasons so don’t assume anything.

Well put. 2 of my 3 kids have severe food allergies (peanuts, soy, certain proteins and a list of others) When the throat starts to close it's a quick Epinephrine shot in the leg and off to the ER. I am sure that they did a blood work profile on Derek to map out everything that he may be allergic to in order to modify his meal plans.
