Copeland is a good prospect but at 6'2 240 lbs, won't be playing DT next year.

We are screwed depth-wise. That is our big issue. Quality depth.

Copeland may never gain enough weight to play DT.

i agree the depth seems poor.

I read hes bigger than 240 and hes still growing...

DTs do not have to be that tall to put a lot of weight on their frame. Dorsey wasn't even 6'1 and he was at 300lbs. Shorter DTs usually get better leverage anyway...

His Rivals page says 240lbs and Scout has 245 lbs. I doubt the kid gained 35-40 lbs since last summer, and if he did, then he's definitely not running a 4.6 40 anymore.

I am not saying he's not a great pickup. I am saying next season we're going to struggle if we have any issues.

It is just frustrating to see LSU, who is normally super stacked at DL, struggle like they have the past 2 seasons. Getting smaller at DT won't help us. It will actually HURT us. We were already weak stopping the run, and having smaller guys up there will only make it worse, especially when you lose 3 of your 4 top LBers.

Says who? If he is 275, he can gain some weight easy heading into camp and during summer. 270 might be small for a SEC DT but he can still play at that weight, especially on pass rushing downs. Not that I think he will...he'd probably be emergency only.

Hes still in HS. I don't know what you guys expect. Do you think every d-lineman that comes into LSU has his frame filled out already? Its not that hard to add some in just a few months either.

Bennie Logan gained a insane amount of weight in just a summer on his frame too, btw...just saying. Brockers did the same thing. He ballooned to 300lbs.

It's possible. However, you are right their is no way possible you can be just as fast with an extra 35-40 pounds.

We'll be ok...LSU will have some bigtime DTs in next years class. We already have probably the best DT in the country committed right now.

The best part is 3 of them are in Louisiana.

well, if Rivals says it, it must be law. I've heard many times he is up around 265-270, but I don't how much he really weighs. What I do know is i've seen his outrageous highlight video where he is damn near unblockable.

I think our DL will be much improved. hell, it has to be after last year. I think we did decent against the run and awful against the pass, but those guys are basically gone now. Nevis was the bright spot amongst the starters and he's coming back.

When did we hire Brick Haley?

Well, its premature to worry about it now considering recruiting isn't even over.

I'd be more worried about taking 1 QB who probably won't make campus and then having JL transfer. That leaves 2 QBs on ship. One a Junior and one a RS Freshman. RP situation all over again.

Is Pep moving inside or just a possibility? I've heard Logan and Brockers have been moved inside.

That would give us:

Nevis, Davenport
Downs, Brockers
Logan, Blackmon (redshirt), and whoever else we get

How many DTs did we use this year? Nevis, Downs, Woods, and Alexander?

DE will have Edwards, CA, Montgomery, Pep, Clement, and Mingo (probably still needs another year). Add Allen who is a great prospect this year as well.

That's 5 DTs and 5 DEs who can play this year. Good thing is Pep and Edwards are big enough they could slide inside and give some time there if injuries happen.

Not great depth but ok for this year. Seems like we still should be able to pull some big names with an opportunity to play early.

Lets see, Josh Downs worked his way into the two-deep as a true freshman. Backed up a 5* player. How long before the 5* player saw the field? You never know about players. You never know whos gonna red-shirt and who will play.

Logan and Brockers had the frame. Look at the guy he's pretty big for his frame already. Pretty far stretch to assume he'll ever put on the weight to be a DT.

Well there you go. 6 players at DT with size and skill. Experience lacking with some.

I heard Logan and Davenport will make good offensive lineman before it's all said and done.
