He was looking for a story...like all reporters do. Maybe he gets an interview. Maybe all he gets is video of Collins walking out with 3 former Tigers and they voice over a story on the 10:00 news.
So I'll ask AGAIN...if this is still such a gigantic story and these guys were tweeting about being there, why wasn't the parking lot inundated with local sports journalists waiting to talk to them? As far as I can tell, there weren't even autograph jackasses there who also follow these guys on social media waiting to paw at them.
Just Doucet. Why? Good Samaritan hoping to help poor Collins out?
quote:
Collins should do things that are in his own best interest.
He did. He didn't talk to Doucet.
quote:
Best case, someone is willing to speak up for him (vaguely obviously) and voice support.
Literally does nothing for him. At all. No NFL team is sitting around waiting to hear what a former teammate thinks about Collins. Doucet being in that lots was ALL about Doucet.
quote:
Certainly, he shouldn't have had a negative altercation with a reporter in a parking lot who was covering him. That's flat out stupid.
From the story, he didn't. He simply left. Freak seems to have had the altercation, correct?

I know this a notion that is completely foreign to many posters here, but sometimes good friends (or even, gasp, good fans) have the backs of people they care about or root for.
Freak had Collin's back; its that simple. was he smart? No. It was dumb. He just had the back of a friend who has been going through hell.
I guess for a lot of you posters if your friend/child/parent does something stupid, you make sure everyone knows it was stupid. Some of us only tell the person himself that it was stupid, and tell the rest of the world we have the guy's back. It has nothing to do with wearing P & G glasses, it's called loyalty and friendship.

So, instead of putting up with a local reporter in the parking lot, spinning the story positively, there is a confrontation in the parking lot.
Yeah, I'm sure Jacques was hanging out in the parking lot to ask La'el about football.
Remember, there is an active double murder investigation going on right now with Collins' name linked all over it. It does him no good to do a fricking interview in a restaurant parking lot.

I'm making assumptions based on the reported facts. This is all about Collins. He, like everyone else, is very much responsible for managing PR. You are focusing on the "sent" word and ignoring the failure to manage this situation and spin it in the best possible light. This was a real opportunity.
Reported facts from a butthurt reporter. And an opportunity to do what exactly? How does this impromptu interview help Collins exactly?
quote:
It hurt Collins. Anyone interested in helping him, should act in a manner that actually helps him.
And how is anything they say going to help him? Will it make him more money?
quote:
He wants to get this all behind him. That should be clear. This was a definite opportunity to help in that regard. If you can't accomplish controlling the narrative with a local reporter, how in the world is he going to accomplish this
So you say he wants to get it all behind him, and the only way to do that is an ambush interview after eating at a restaurant. What if he asks him about the murder of this girl on camera? What of he says the wrong thing? Like I said, this would have only hurt him if anything because it wouldn't have helped him in any way.
quote:
You are clueless. It's in his very real interest to get people talking about his career...not talking about him as a suspect. I acknowledge that you don't recognize this. No point in arguing.
Yea, you say the only way to get all of this stuff behind him is to possibly talk about it in an impromptu interview with a reporter who was waiting for you outside the whole time you were eating. And I'm the one who's clueless lol
quote:
It's quite literally the first story that would have been about Collins resuming his career goals. It absolutely would have helped his situation. It wouldn't solve it on its own obviously. But, a week ago, people were legitimately wondering if he killed that poor girl. So, instead of putting up with a local reporter in the parking lot, spinning the story positively, there is a confrontation in the parking lot.
Well if he hadn't been waiting for an interview outside like a creeper and actually gotten permission for a formal interview than this wouldn't even be an issue. This is not Collins fault but Doucets by being a hack reporter. I stand by my statements that Collins could have only hurt himself with this interview and thinking otherwise is just idiotic.

If he was interested in a fluff piece he would've called Collins' agent and tried to get an interview. Instead he read twitter and went and sat in the parking lot.
So, you think he was preparing a hit piece?
And, common sense would tell you that nobody was getting a scheduled interview with Collins these days.
Doucet was fishing for a story. Reporters camping out and acting "creepy" is very, very common. It's certainly not worthy of criticism.
I can't stand Jacques Doucet...but I can't find a single thing he did wrong (other than maybe bitch about it afterwards). But, even then, to be honest it's a story.
There were 100 ways Collins could have handled this better. He could have walked up to Doucet, shook his hand, apologized for not being able to give an interview and walked off.
He could have asked all of those visiting with him to do the same if he wanted...or asked that they not talk at all about the murder investigation.

Well looks like Doucet lacks common sense in thinking he would get one. This reflects more on Doucet than Collins IMHO and he should be ashamed of being such a hack.

oh this is a story about Jacques Douch-et?????
moving on

So, you think he was preparing a hit piece? Can you point to another piece he's done like that...ever? This is Jacques Doucet we're talking about.
He was completely nuts during Shadygate.

Exactly.

He's a sports anchor. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing really wrong except mocking Freak for 2 days now.

Collins didn't even do anything.

Where were all of the local reporters? Just curious.

I guess because he's the only one willing to take the time to risk getting nothing but a video of Collins walking out of the restaurant? Who knows. It's doesn't matter.

No. I never said that. That you feel the need to build a strawman is telling. Doucet was looking for a story. Smart people know how to use a situation like that to their advantage.

PR is real man. The narrative turning from murder suspect to wrongfully accused and moving on is a valuable event for Collins.

It reflects poorly on Collins. Fair or not, that's the reality. And, because it affects Collins, Collins has to be concerned with it and make sure it benefits him.

He was probably hoping to talk to someone. He probably would have been elated to get Jarvis on screen. I doubt he expected to get Collins to do an interview.
Certainly you realize that, no?

And yet here we are with most people saying Jacques looks like the idiot here.

Collins meeting with former teammates, basically on campus, about joining them in Miami, 1 week from the draft in which Collins wasn't taken due to a alleged murder investigation isn't news?

Reporting that is news. Waiting outside the restaurant "fishing for a story" is not.

It is, in a sense, news. Doucet could have reported it like all the other stations. Doucet: "Collins and former teammates, who now play for Dolphins, had dinner a Walk On's. According to social media, they are trying to recruit Collins to play for the Dolphins."
No other news outlet was there. Just Doucet camped out the the parking lot looking to ambush them.
If Doucet wants to be treated like something other than paparazzi, then he should act like something other than paparazzi.
Plus, you know what I call people who track people through social media and follow them in hopes of talking/photographing them? Stalkers.

The meeting was at the restaurant. He was hoping to get video and maybe a soundbite.
It's news.
