Pretty sure you're already supposed to know the game pretty well by the time you reach the collegiate level if you're really that caliber of player.

Why wouldnt they like a coach that is their age and acts like one of them?

Of course the players like him. That doesnt equate into him making them better though.

This is the dumbest comment I keep reading when discussing the LSU baseball team, and you're not the only one claiming this.

Why does Tiger Woods need a swing coach? Why does Tom Brady need a quarterback coach? Why does Alex Rodriguez need a hitting coach? Why does Lebron James have a shooting coach?

Nobody says they don't need continual coaching.

But if you don't know the game pretty well by the time you're in an LSU uniform, you're not going to be in one. That's not dumb that's just a fact.
It's not like Mainieri goes out and recruits kids who can't field a ground ball or hit a fastball by the time they're seniors in HS.

This has been the argument from those saying that we do have the talent. The belief is that some of the kids have the talent to be .300 hitters, but they're getting into slumps and nobody is helping them get out of it.

Now, personally, I'm not putting all of the blame on the coaches. I agree that at some point the kid has to take it upon themselves to get better. But also, I think Grewe has gotten the ax because he has not recruited the type of talent needed to win in the SEC.

Skip Bertman once went to the mound to pull a pitcher during a game and said, "<Player's name>, it's not your fault. It's my fault for recruiting you." Well, Mainieri has put the blame on Grewe for recruiting them, and now the bulls-eye is squarely on him as either Mainieri fixes it, or he may be getting the ax next.

I totally agree Pique "Rag" thinks they should know the nuances of hitting front to back like he did as a highschool slugger...............
Hitting is a science in itself many hours of instruction needed to develope a consistant stroke and approach to every at bat.

that is my point .. not defending javi .. but to blame all of our hitting woes on him, lock, stock, and barrel, isn't completely accurate .. we did dumb shite at the plate that 13-year-old tournament ball kids don't do ... sure, they need coaching .. hell, NBA players need coaching still .. no one is implying that .. would i like to see an older, more seasoned hitting coach ? sure .. but maineri is letting trey watkins go because he sucked at the plate for most of the season .. is it 100% sanchez's fault that watkins thought he was the next ricky henderson and tried to lead off every game with a homer ?

so basically, based on your posts, you believe LSU's division I college baseball players bear ZERO culpability for their problems at the plate .. so when the entire team went on a mini tear at the dish in the SEC tourney last year that was 100% javi's coaching and had nothing to do with them at all ?? think now, we can't have it both ways ..

Not trying to be a dick, but to say they are supposed to know, is like saying they don't need constant reminding of hitting fundementals. The hardest thing in sports is to hit a round moving ball with a round moving bat, square. We def need a proven hitting instructer that teaches solid principals as it pertains to approaching every at bat in a way that allows your natural hand eye instincts to take over. Lots of sucessful hitters are naturally instinctive and require little instruction, many more need help in developing what talents they have to succeed at the next level. Every hitter requires different drills and keys to achieve that goal.Constant repitition is a beautiful thing. A good hitting instructer will see thru trial and error what works best for each player. It has to be the most important hire to every college team in this dead bat era.

your initial post in the thread begs to differ .. but i will take you at face value here ..

and i am neither arguing nor saying that there is no need for a hitting instructor .. my point is can you blame 100% of our hitting woes on said instructor ...
