What's the debacle?

College football has the best season in all of sports. Every week is like the freakin super bowl. It's March Madness all season long.

There is no prohibition against this. Nor should there be.

You are free to have another opinion. But, it clearly is not a "debacle".

I'd say this year calls for a regression to the old days when they awarded the national championship pryor to the bowl games.

What debacle? The BCS is supposed to match up the 2 best teams. If things play out and we play a rematch with Bama its a credit to the BCS for getting it right. No way that a rematch would have happend pre BCS so its has improved the system.

Hardly a "debacle", especially when that team is clearly one of the top 2 teams in the country. But if that really bothers enough people, it can easily be fixed. But again, hardly a debacle.

So I guess you enjoy it when teams play all their backups from start to finish with no regard to the outcome of the game?

Try being a season ticket holder for an NFL team, paying full ticket price to see the team in Week 18 not even show up to the game and be happy to lose for 60 minutes. Its terrible.

And what causes that? Playoffs.

ETA: Furthermore, HOLY CRAP IS JETS/PATS, Week 14 for all the marbles! Oh wait, it isn't? Wait, you mean, after this they can just play again for the 3rd time just a few weeks from now? So this Week 14 game doesn't matter all that much? Pass.

Coach would be fired since week 18 is the first week of the playoffs.

What, so we could have a LSU/Bama final in the end anyway because that's probably who would win out.

It ain't the BCS' fault, it's these stupid teams for losing to lesser teams and letting Bama back in it.

So you want to penalize a conference for having the 2 best teams? I want an easy win for a title as much as the next guy. Heck, if these other conferences would hold up their end I would even argue their undefeated team deserves a shot b/c SEC teams had theirs. The problem is, none of them want to win all their games to earn it.

A non- conference champ/non-divisional champ is one of the few flaws with a single championship game. The only way to fix this year would be to not even have a game if not necessary. If we win out, no one else will have earned a chance for a title, so if we have to play somebody, the best candidate might be from our conference.

This downside is way better than giving 3 or 4 teams that don't deserve it a chance at a title through a playoff. That would be the ultimate slap in the face to all our hard work and accomplishments, compared to everybody else dropping games all year long and then putting us in a sudden death position.

They'll keep it, but with much tweaking.

quote:

1)eliminate or tweak AQ conference winner requirements so a #16 or #18 UConn team doesn't stink it up.
2)let more than 2 teams from each conference have ability to go to a BCS bowl.

These are good.

Add the easy and obvious stipulation that only confererence champions qualify for the BSCNCG.

What gets me is when you have people debating on Gameday and sports shows about who gets in the championship game and that actually matters in who gets in the game. That shouldn't happen and this process shouldn't be so subjective, honestly I'm pretty sure even with a Plus one or a small playoff there'd still be a lot of emotion in wins and losses.

Think about it in the NFL not every loss is as emotional but you're also not playing your divisional rivals almost every game like you play the people in your conference for college football

What debacle?????

We're heading toward a rematch of the two best teams in the country?

The only people who are complaining are the losers.

In the mean time, we've had week after week of exciting games.

I'll take any season of college football as it is over any season of NFL playoffs (Saints Superbowl not included).

Don't frick with perfection!!!

Use the BCS to determine the national title game and throw everything else out the window.

BHP, I usually agree with everything you post. But this time we on differnt sides of the fence.

This would be the perfect year for the Plus 1 format (i.e. four team playoff):
1. It would not take away from the regular season. There would be even more interest with teams playing for the top four spots.

2. Let's face it, the regular season is not a playoff. See Bama: They lost and have an easier road to the NCG than the team that beat them.

3. Teams like Bama should have to play there way in.

4. Deserving teams get left out. LSU would have been left out in 2003 with the current system. The only reason we got in was that strenght of schedule was part of the formula in '03 (See also - Auburn '04, LSU '06, etc.

Getting back to the OP...

The BCS is already moving in this direction, and have stated so publically.

The next change being considered by the BCS is to let the Bowls set their own match-ups, and then determine the top two from the winners.

Consider what the match-ups might look like:

Sugar Bowl: No. 1 LSU vs No. 5 Stanford

Fiesta Bowl: No. 3 OSU vs No. 6 Arkansas

Orange Bowl: No. 4 Virginia Tech vs No. 2 Bama

Rose Bowl: No. 9 Oregon vs No. 12 MSU

(Assumes favorites win out and the polls adjust accordingly)
