You dann sure cant win one when your not in the CWS regularly.

Sure, that’s common sense. It just so happens that going to the CWS regularly is not something most teams do.

Nobody said it’s not doable, but it’s not easy. How many people have done it or even had the chance to compete in two championship finals?

since year before we hire Paul:
Pat Casey has 3
Corbin has 2 and played for a 3rd.
Ray Tanner has 2 and played for a 3rd
O’Sullivan has one and played in another
UCLA dude has one and played in another
Brian O’Connor has one and played in another
Andy Lopez won one and played for another at Arizona

Yeah a pretty small list. Two of the SEC coaches on that list are the ones I was referring to that have recruiting advantages over LSU. The other is 2nd in SEC history in winning percentage behind Skip and just slightly ahead of PM.

Miss State has been in Omaha quite consistently in the last 10 years. Multiple coaches.

I’m glad he got to retire and not get fired

Paul’s retirement speech made me feel bad of my criticisms over the last two years and he regained my respect for him as the sincere , dedicated person that Skip Bertman knew him to be for the many years they knew each other in the college baseball world before Skip hired him.....

We LSU fans need to realize that there is no dominating baseball team in America today that LSU was in the 1990’s and probably won’t happen again for a long time to come

Let’s go Tiger baseball team and show Paul that this years’ team can imagine and achieve a regional.victory and beyond

The guy who was hired 15 years ago and the guy who announced his retirement today are not the same coach.

That's all there is to it. Paul may have the desire to win but the drive just isn't there any more.

Thanks, Paul, for what you brought to LSU, and thank you for recognizing that it is simply time to step aside.

Take care and enjoy your retirement.

Alabama football fans need to accept that Bear Bryant is gone and college football can’t be dominated like Bama did in the 70s.

Am I Right?

Paul’s press conference had me in tears. I’m so sorry for being so critical of coach Mainieri. He is a good dude. God bless Paul and his family.

that “small list” makes up more than half of all available spots in championship series over that time frame.

yeah.
and if Paul had 2 wins and a 3rd appearance he would be viewed more favorably than he is by the masses.

Part of that small list is PM and LSU

Not the same thing. LSU has had almost the same success as any of the other top programs in baseball during PM’s tenure. There’s a very small list of coaches who have what people would consider a better resume. As pointed out, two of those SEC programs have recruiting advantages over LSU.

You do realize that you only listed 3 coaches that have produced better results than PM over the last 15 years right?

There were very few coaches, like 2, that had better results than Les Miles.

Same thing. Paul is living off the LSU name. He’s done well, but he’s not the reason we have done well. Smoke Laval made it to Omaha twice.

I agree with this. After the NC the team had a down year and Paul admitted he wasn’t as involved as he was previously. He then stepped up and the team had a nice run for a couple of years. But, the last couple of years he had delegated too much and lost the fire whether it was his health or age it was time.
I give him credit for recognizing this and stepping down.
It would be interesting if he became a TV analyst so we can hear what he was thinking in certain situations.
