Perhaps, but if you have followed LSU baseball for any real length of time, then you know Garrido. Actually, CSF was a lot like Rice from a post-season rivalry standpoint: it seemed like we faced them in the post season every year and they were always tough. I actually respected him more when he was at CSF. I know that money talks, but frick Texas.

You know, alot of the fans who have followed LSU for that long forget the fact that any fans who are < 30 aren't likely to remember Skip's early years here and the '91 and '93 championship teams. I just happened to get lucky and started college at about the same time that Skip was building up this program in the late 80's.

SKIP!

Skip elevated baseball in the Southeastern Conference IMO. He really elevated the game as a whole and brought "Gorilla Ball" which in turn made the game more exciting. So I say Skip. I think he has more titles than Auggie as well.

That's not an opinion, it's simply the truth!

As for titles, he has the same number of Championships as Skip (3 with CSF, 2 with Texas). He also has more wins than any coach in college baseball history with over 1,600 wins.

im not 100% certain on this, but i believe skip was texas' first choice to replace cliff gustafson in 1997 before garrido

and odd note on garrido: he actually left fullerton after the 1987 season to coach at illinois for 3 years before going back to fullerton

and they do now? Perhaps you should tell ESPN so they could put a link to it on their 'College Sports' page.

This question is like do you like Honda or Toyotas. Both are two of the best ever and Augie has won national Championships in 4 different decades. By the way, LSU's record of 15 World Series is admirable but don't forget this is Texas' 33rd. No one else close. Texas has been to the CWS 6 of the last 9 years. So, this is good talk show conversation but not much meat. I would take either one of them in a heartbeat.

Not just the SEC.

I give a lot of credit for whatever popularity College Baseball has today on a nationwide basis to Skip and Ron Polk. Those two did more to promote the game than anybody else.

Another add on note: he coached the NY Yankees for 1 game. His record is 0-1 and Kevin Costner pitched a perfect game against them.

"Throughout his USC career, he accepted only a nominal salary of $1 per year, as his trucking business supplied a substantial income. He turned down numerous offers of major league coaching positions"

Different time or not that's pretty cool, great story.

I'll take skip also

Overheard some discussions this weekend by each of the super regional announcers and they were talking about each. I think they are about even when it comes to coaching. What do you guys think?
Skip, EASILY.
He was only a head coach for 18 seasons and went to the CWS 11 times and won it five times.

Gurrido on the other hand, in 37 seasons has made 12 CWS appearances and won it five times.

They have similar accomplishments, but it took Bertman less than half as much time to do it. He has a higher winning percentage, a higher post season winning percentage and a higher Omaha winning percentage.

Gurrido is one of the best(possibly the best) in the college game today, but I don't even think it is debatable who you would want on your sideline.

ETA: Skip took over a school with no previous baseball tradition and still accomplished all of this. UNO had been to the CWS and LSU had not. I think most Texas fans would even take Bertman over Gurrido if given the choice.

Hopefully in 15 years we will put him in a similar category, but I don't think it is reasonably to expect it.

ha, didn't realize that was Auggie, he should have had his team better prepared for that game, Chapel was over the hill and his stuff was very mediocre.
