that would have been after the 06 season. He did hold his own but we already knew saban was championship caliber. Les had yet to prove it. Also the timeout thing vs UT should have been a big hint at game management blunders to come.

If I made 4-5 million a year I damn sure would have me a hideout! Sometimes when you've been married awhile you just want the hell away from the wife and kids.

On that interview with Skip that was outstanding and very informative into what goes on behind the scenes during a coaching search. Very interesting interview.

I also chuckled when he said Saban wore him out after 5 years. I can see that with everything Nick wanted built and how driven he is. I believe he referred to one complex Saban had built as Sabanville.

Freedom of Info Act - all calls from LSU offices are subject to public knowledge. Les or Alleva could go over to condo at Fieldhouse to privately take care of business with private phone calls/emails.

Years ago, a higher up at LSU told me that I'd be amazed at how much money was dished out under the table (TAF) to make problems quietly go away and not hit media (i.e. coach sleeping with co-ed). Any wonder that TAF spending has never been released to public?

No way he couldve known at the time.

Oh,I just disagree. Anyone who ever thought that Miles was a better coach than Saban qualifies as mentally challenged.

its pretty much how high level things work. The every day person would probably be shocked what can be swept away for the price.

Arky didn't fire BP for slaying coeds or even getting caught. They only fired him because he put the girl on payroll.

Nah man, sometimes coach just wants to shave 10 minutes off his commute.

I am being serious. The offensive game plan was centered around Mettenberger throwing the ball downfield. He went down very close to gameday in practice (I was not told the nature of the injury), the plan was scrapped, and all the work the team had put in was for nothing. Check out Mett's statistics in his first start against alabama the following season and tell me he wasn't prepared for that defense.

Mett was never injured, but a game plan that had been worked on for 30 days was scrapped at the last minute. This led to hard feelings, an argument on bus and a QB sack before game even started. Les threw a flag on the sack for unnecessary roughness.

BTW. T-Bob is spot on, absolutely nothing happened the night before the game.

Again, thats VERY easy to say and see now....but then???
Saban went like 9-4 his last year. Miles comes in and goes 11-2 and Saban tanks in NFL....
So Saban calls and says "I wanna come back"......you drop everything and do it?? I doubt it.

Youre basing your opinion off years of experience and knowledge Skip didnt have at the time

Let me get this straight, people went on to say a QB that had 11 passes throughout the whole season was going to start in the national title game?

How do you know a game plan that had been worked on for 30 days was scrapped at the last minute? (serious question)

Ok, IF this is true, the WHY would they scrap the plan?

yep. I can't be mad at skip for that without 20/20 hindsight. he was in a bind. you fire the guy who went 11-2 and 11-2 or hire back the guy who won two seccg and a natty. facked up position to be in. I do know this though....going forward if we ever get in that position again make damn sure any championship coach we lose and deem really good let him know he is always open to coming back especially if he bails for pro ball like saban, spurrier, erickson, davis, and carroll did. If the current coach has not won any hardward yet at that time, adious. i am sure the lawyers could fanagle a way out of it. put some small print in the contract.

Have no idea if he was going to play. Just know he was not injured.
