As I recall, Will Clark's actual quote when someone asked him why he went to State and not LSU was,
"Jack F'ing Lamabe, that's why."
"Jack F'ing Lamabe, that's why."

From what I've read, in 1982, Jack Lamabe offered Clark a scholarship over the phone and told him that he had to accept it or decline it on the phone. Clark asked if he could speak with his parents before he accepted. They were apparently not at home at the time - remember, this was before cell phones. Lamabe said, "No." Clark declined and went to MSU.
Lamabe was fired at the end of the next baseball season (after Clark's freshmen year at MSU) and Skip was then hired in 1983. Skip had been an assistant at Miami prior to that.
