Did not witness it personally but have seen posts describing his “a tornado went through Starkville and did a million dollars worth of improvements” joke got a gut-busting laugh out of Saban on stage at some athletics banquet.

He also said when they stayed in Starkville, he'd ask the hotel manager to give him a room "without a view".

He’s got 5 minutes of material just in Starkville.

I was working on campus when he was AD and went to get a ball signed for him for a giveaway. Ended up spending 45 minutes talking. Great guy.

Was hoped he'd tell my all time favorite quote. A pitcher was getting beat up pretty good and he went to the mound to take him out. Pitcher said:
"coach, I'm sorry" .. Skip says "It's not your fault.. It's all my fault .. I never should have recruited you.
I had class with some of the early 90's players and got to know some of them. They all had great stories. They said Skip could be a hard-arse sometimes, but they knew he was going to lead them to the promised land.
Skip to different pitchers who were getting shelled when he went to the mound to make a change:
"I am trying to win a championship here, and you aren't helping"
"You are embarrassing yourself, your family, your girlfriend, and your maker"
And maybe the most efficient:
"Get the frick off of my mound"

Great guy, great coach, not great AD. Ended LSU tailgating and Tiger Stadium as we once knew it. Sorry in advance for those that disagree, but those are the facts. Turned it into too corporate and the net net is not a gain.

He was a terrible AD - Dan Radakovich ran the place.

Skip was a national treasure. To think we may have a young skip in jay johnson. He's just in his 40's and has 2 ships already. If we get fortunate enough, we may have jay for the next 25 years or so.

if it is true that he was responsible for not getting Saban back/saying no to him when he was available and willing that just about negates all else he ever did
