Since losing to Houston on December 12, 2018 LSU basketball has gone 36-8 and 22-3 in SEC play including SEC and NCAA tournament. That's 82% overall and 88% in conference play. It is doubtful there are many programs in the country who can make the same statement. While it is easy to dwell on the negatives it is clear something special has been going on within this program. You don't win as many close games as they have, many times against good teams without having belief in each other and incredible wills to win.

It is way past time to end the incessant bashing of Smart and Mays every game, commenting only on the negative. They handle the ball more than others and their mistakes are often more visible. These two players have made far more winning plays than many of you believe.

Mays and Smart combine for 28 PPG, 7.5 assists, 8 rebounds and shoot over 85% at the free throw line. Yes, they combine for 5 turnovers per game. Doubt there are many backcourts with such glittering numbers. Objectively, I would like to see Smart shoot one or two fewer three point shots and Mays a couple more but they have been a winning combination for two years.

Will Wade clearly has this program in the upper echelon of the SEC and about to enter the Top 25 again. Lets continue to be positive and expect the right plays will be made at crunch time.
