So what's the excuse for all the other teams in college football. I would like to know where we ranked in average amount of wins per season since 2003. Many of you are delusional in expecting us to play for national titles every year. Only Florida and USC have the same amount as LSU and I don't see either of them winning one anytime soon.

I'm counting the one that was vacated because it was won on the field.

Your thread is actually illustrating the point that this program is capable of more than it has accomplished in recent years, and we could've hired several other coaching options before settling on Orgeron.

First of all, people say compete for championships, not play in them every year. That's as simple as being a one or two loss team at the end of the regular season and actually being competitive with Bama. We can't even finish higher than 3rd in our own damn division.

LSU isn't dominant at all. Going off talent level and amount of money LSU is paying the staff, we shouldn't look nearly as bad as we do and we've been like this since 2014.

Dan Mullen had won 8+ regular season games 3 of his past 4 years at Miss St with nowhere near the advantages we have. Miss St itself has won at least 9 games 4 of the past 5 years...

We are on Miss St's level. We are doing way less with way more in comparison.

Our higher ups decided a while ago that it is enough just being okay at Football. Despite what many of you think, O is a bad coach and many a coach can produce the same records with the talent and resources LSU has. UGA has Kirby Smart and UF has Dan Mullen. Both of those guys will capitalize on the vast resources they have in talent, money, and prestige.

Much harder to compete for NCs at this time when Bama is in your own division. People will still bitch losing in title games.

OP is making a good point. If you think about we have the luxury to play the best team in the country every year. If we win.....championship.

It is not Delusional for consistent winning and Playoff programs like ALA, OSU, CLEM, or their current NC Coaches (Saban, Dabo, Meyer, Fisher) because they build programs and are in places with ADs they can trust to make the necessary investments in facilities and staff.

Orgeron was not a Choice - there were no other candidates.

'Alleva the Search' never left Nicholson Drive.

When Alleva told Herman late at night Nov 25, 2016 he had just one chance to take his 5 million offer, 2 million less than he offered Fisher, Herman said 'not before I talk to Texas'. Alleva, refusing to offer either Coach their Market Value then simply applied some white-out over Herman’s name to write Orgeron’s over it, chopped the salary down by a couple million, called him the next morning and handed O a contract to sign.

AD's make their legacy with Football HC hires like Scott Woodward did at A&M. Why, football pays for everything, and winning program pay for more. Scott asked do you want to pay for an NC pedigree Coach. Scott was liaison between Emmert and Saban and Fisher at LSU. He and Fisher made a deal with a 18 yr friendship that ties their futures for the long run. Scott says Fisher has already paid for himself selling out the stadium and by the time his contract is up 7.5 million will be the low end. Like Emmert, Scott is a people person and he is at the richest school in the nation with the best facilities in the richest Conference.

We were promised an Offensive Coach, the best available.

The Off has not improved..Nothing has changed.

O is losing ground on ALA, TAMU, and is 5-3 in the SEC.

quote:

18 yrs ago, LSU boldly set the market for a new football coach when they hired Saban from Michigan State for $1.2 million. Chancellor Mark Emmert stepped in and stopped the quibbling between Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, and LSU and said “Pay him what he wants.”

And it was done. Emmert wasn’t looking for a bargain. He was shopping at Neiman Marcus, and he got value over a long period of time because he took over and stopped the AD from hiring a journeyman defensive assistant coach.

Emmert’s shot at the moon launched LSU’s football future out of the futility over the previous quarter century into sustained greatness for over a decade. There were NCs in 2003 and 2007 after none since 1958 and an NC appearance at 13-0 in 2011. There were Southeastern Conference titles in 2001, ’03, ’07 and ’11 after none since 1988.

LSU was never greater for longer than in that span because Emmert had the vision to "Pay him what he wants".

No USC does not have 2, LSU won 2003 crystal ball, recognized as the national championship trophy and they forfeited the next championship they won because of the Reggie Bush scandal
