Main thing I got from that interview: Summer is going to be very important for the defense in terms of getting to know the playbook and what Aranda wants. Hopefully we will be good to go for the fall, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a short adjustment period. That tends to happen when you get a new coordinator and installing a brand new scheme.

But Aranda is incredibly smart. Home run hire. Can't wait to see what the D looks like in the fall.

Perfect teacher. You have to focus on what your players do well. Too often coaches try to fit the players into their system and not their system to their players. Hopefully, Cam will start doing that with the type of QBs we have.

I honestly think I'm in love with him.

Is that ok?

Makes you wonder if Steele tried to do too much at one time with how unorganized our defense looked last year.

Man deepest DLINE since 11 and deepest secondary since 11?

Aranda just seems like he knows his shite.

I will provide the obligatory Glen Guilbeau warning that should have accompanied the OP.

The main thing I think whenever I see an interview with Aranda is, "Finally, someone sees how good these guys are and knows what to do with them!"

I think Steele definitely tried to do too much. When you have better athletes than your opponent, it makes no sense to slow your athletes down with a bunch of adjustments. We had busted coverages against some of weakest teams on our schedule last year. I read that during the Texas Tech game, Steele stuck with very basic coverages and our defense held up very well. (other than TT's unworldly QB scrabbling and then throwing the ball cross field.)

He's incredibly smart, but I think what separates him is his ability to disburse complex information and break it down into simple terms. Some smart guys are horrible at communicating and getting you to understand what there thinking.

I believe it. He toasted T White for a touchdown and he broke D Thomas ankles at the goalie for another TD.
