But, but, but....Hilton takes the top off of the D, and opens up the underneath routes..and the running game will be better because he will take the Safeties deep so they can't crash.....oh wait....

I think so.

He was there on those plays vs A&M, maybe he was rusty and mistimed his jumps, but Nuss put the ball on the money. So the timing was there between WR and QB.
If you have that and you think he can catch the ball at all, you keep doing it. He did catch a shorter throw, so I think he can catch. They probably should have done that a few times before going deep.

I know people got frustrated about the misses (and the game overall), but if you have a homerun threat, you want to get him going.

He mistimed his jump badly on a long ball against A&M this past weekend,
there were two mistimed passes he badly mistimed and one would have been a TD and the other would have put LSU deep in the Red Zone totally changing the outcome of the ball game

28 point lead going into half time

I think the problem was not easing Hilton into the game plan and he was clearly mistiming his jumps due to rust. Felt like they were forcing an issue that was never there and it morphed into an elephant because well... we see the result.

I’m sure they were trying to hit them for a couple deep ones to try and back the defense off a little, which would have helped in the run game. But Hilton probably should have been given some easier looks first. When they did finally throw a short one to him, he caught it and picked up a first down.

Hilton being more ready to go for Bama after the bye week will help with our current health and experienced depth issues at WR.

I don't understand the obsession with him

That’s easy. He has height with great speed. That’s not something any of our other WRs have except for maybe Sampson, and it hasn’t clicked for him yet for whatever reason. It’s not for lack of trying with him, either. Sampson is getting plenty of snaps, especially when Daniels has been out injured.

While most of our passing statistics are really strong, yards per attempt and big plays in the pass game have been a weakness all season. They are pushing Hilton out there in an attempt to open that part of the game up more. There’s no mystery here.

Here’s the thing some of you miss with Hilton. He doesn’t have to show up and be a star to help this offense. A performance like the bowl game from him would be great, but all we really need is for him to hit on a couple of long throws for defenses to have to respect the threat. They have absolutely no reason to do that right now, which is 2nd on the list of issues with this offense behind the lack of a run game.

If Hilton can just make deep throws a realistic threat, that will make the Safeties back up a bit and pay attention to him, and that opens up more space and creates one on ones where we throw the ball the most. The Safeties watching deep in man more will also help our run game.

This is the same thing that really opened up the offense 1/4 of the way through last season. Once Daniels got confidence throwing the ball deep and making defenses pay, it made everything else easier. They had to pick their poison, which wasn’t an issue before. More space in the defense would make Durham and our short game much harder to stop than they are today.

Remains to be seen. If he is not ready don’t force it

Seemed like they were trying to force plays to him vs just going with the WRs who got them there.

Puzzling.

OTOH, maybe he is aware, but he was just rusty. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don't remember any tough, contested catches that he has made. Hate to rag on a Tiger player...

He’s not a 35 year old ex high school football player trying an out a flag league for the first time. He’s a D1 WR they hasn’t played in a few months. Those horrible mistimed jumps are why he has never made an impact here, not due to a few weeks without tracking a ball
