Should Tharold Simon Start over T-Rex on the Outside?

Interesting little read
I think I like Mathieu's play on the inside as well.
Though, I don't really doubt his ability to transition to playing outside... kid seems like he can do just about anything he wants.

Yes. Let little ball of hate run around and make plays.

I really like Simon at CB. I love the play of T-Rex and don't want him to get cast as a 'blitz only/nickel' guy but damn Simon has natural cover skills.
That and the position battle between Reid and Loston...good position to be in. Coop is the man!

I would still put T-Rex on the outside in 2 CB formations though. You gotta have him on the field as much as you can
Now if we go to the Nickel or more, then I would move him inside because I think Simon really showed his worth in the Spring game

Its a good question. The way Simon handled RR makes me think he's a better fit(just because of size). The thing about a timed throw, you just can't jump, so height really matters. Simon showed me he is ready. I want TM around the ball, also, not on an island.

Who knows how Mathieu will play against better receivers.
Joe Adams made him look a fool last season.

Simon & Claiborne are you two cornerbacks for the next two years.
Mathieu is too valuable in the nickel. He'll play at Corner only if there's an injury.

That and the Tennessee game by Justin Hunter are the only two times I can really remember him getting "Burned" and against Hunter, it was more of an issue where he just didn't get his head around in time to make a play.. he was in position.
One thing I do like about Mathieu on the outside is he doesn't lack confidence and playing cover corner is a lot like playing QB. If you get burned, you gotta just shake it off and keep at it.. short memory. And he has it.

TM7 should play roaming blitzing back no doubt. This article brings up a great point (and to me, the most important) he is 5'9

That goes back to your long corners comment. If Simon is in the exact same position as T-Rex was on that play, he deflects that ball on the 4th down.

I say Simon over Ty mat for sure.....as we saw with PP7 a team can almost take you out of the game by not throwing to your side....With Ty matt I want him to be around the ball anytime he can where QBs have to know where he is at all times....hes a beast at batting, stripping balls out...
I dont think their will be any doubt where simon and ty mat will be in goal line situations...ty mat roaming around and odds are with Simon playing corner..no team is going to throw a lob to their WR with him on them.

There's a lot of really good corners around that height in the NFL, namely Revis and Asante Samuel, who are probably both closer to 5'9 than their listed heights...
My opinion is that height is an overrated attribute when it comes to corners. It's nice to have, but usually taller corners aren't as explosive, so what you gain in covering the jump ball, you lose in covering just about everything else.

Also, you have to consider a guy like Micah Eugene coming in as well. Plays very similar to Mathieu and is 5'11". After seeing more film on Eugene, I think he could make an impact next year

Yeah I agree...most of the big names that our CBs in the NFL are not very tall but my point is I still like Ty mat roaming around.

Asante is a horrible coverage corner though, he bites on pump fakes like a mofo, and will jump the shite out of routes. He has talent, but as far as locking someone up and taking them out of the game... no.
