Should Jai Eugene play on running situations vs Alabama, mainly first downs and even some 2nd n long situations ?

There is nothing that Hawkins has done to warrant him
NOT playing the entire game ( aside from injuries) except the first half vs Florida.

I am of the belief that Miles pulled Hawkins in favor of Jai because Jai is MUCH better than Hawk closer to the LOS. Jai is much more physical at the point of attack and is a TREMENDOUS against the run.

LSU is going to have to have people tackle Ingram, Richardson as well as Julio CLOSE to the LOS. Jai is so much better than Hawk at tackling and being physical.

It is going to be imperative for LSU to make tackles and put Bama in those long 3rd down situations.

Hawk gets thrown around out there like a rag doll when teams run his way. But love him in coverage.

I don't think you decide which CB should be playing based on a perceived running/passing situation.

From what I have seen so far this year Jai is a vastly improved player. He looked great against Auburn.

I think if we know whether the play is a run or a pass, the last thing I'm concerned about is who is playing cornerback.

I'm also worried about Jai Eugene's ability to wrap up and tackle. I like the kid, but many times I see him lower his shoulder and try to knock someone on their arse. When it comes to bringing down Ingram, you gotta wrap up.

He's gonna play but he won't start. Most likely for their wildcat formations and definitely in the dime package.

I think the most important thing is coverage, I agree with your assessment. But if we can have our corners cover well, it will allow our Safeties and backers that are all better than Jai in run support play the run a bit more aggressive.

I welcome McElroy trying to make plays with any of their receivers against our corners. I think this is a edge LSU situations. Before someone says how great Julio is, my statement is about the QB, not the receiver talent.

He made a terrific tackle on the running back against Auburn, I remember. Guy was stunned.

YES. I was telling someone this just the other day. I always take up for Hawk when he's bashed on here, but Jai is better in run support. Though I have seen Hawk stick his nose in more this year, he can be blocked a bit too easily out on the edge.

Yes he should. You have to play 3 corners, no matter what these days and I do not think feeding Morris Claiborne to the fire is the answer just yet. Jai will play and should play.

Agreed, but IMO against Florida Hawk wasn't pulled b/c of one pass play, he was really pulled because UF was gashing us with runs to the outside to his side of the field. He was nowhere in the picture in any of those plays.

I would rather Ron Brooks who came in as a Corner prospect, due to his tackling/hitting ability over any current corner other than Peterson. With Peterson pegged to line up opposite Julio Jones. Brooks would be the run stopping option at corner, but then would be a huge liability in the event that Bama passes against him and he blows a coverage assignment lose lose situation for LSU.

Hawkins is HORRIBLE in run support. Since Bama's passing attack is lifeless, and if we can put PP on Julio Jones all day, I say remove Hawkins and let Jai play most of the way, he's a much better tackler and much more physical.
