I didn't take issue with his opinion. You may want to read things a couple of times if you don't quite understand them at first. That way you won't make comments about the wrong thing.

Anyone lacking an LSU degree should not expect to be included in the university's academic HOF. However, I don't see the need for a degree in order to be included in the school's athletic HOF.

I see both sides but this seems to be the most sensible. And this approach does not reflect negatively on LSU, society/people understand why star caliber athletes (the ones that will be in your HOF)go to college.

To be in Hof they should be required to have a degree. Some of these guys were my favorites, but you go to college for a degree

That is total fricking bullshite!!! You go to college to help prepare yourself for your chosen profession. In that process if you take all the required courses you can earn a degree. Some professions demand degrees in order to work in that profession, other professions don't require degrees. If there are professions that don't require degrees why do you demand that someone gets one when the profession he choose said he doesn't have to have one to earn a living. This is not the academia HOF it is the sports HOF, if he flunked out of school then maybe you have an argument. But he left school to ply his trade that is why you go to college to prepare yourself better for your chosen trade. Pete Maravich did that, and oh by the way he became the leading scorer in NCAA history and he is not part of the LSU-HOF, what a crock of administrative bullshite.

Pistol Pete Maravich deserves to be in the LSU-HOF, he earned his place in the LSU-HOF by his contribution on the court. It is an abomination that his name is not there already.

I will say this, most should be required to have a degree, but LSU should give Pistol an honorary degree and put him in no doubt since he is unable to do so

By the way I am truly glad this thread started, as an Alumni of LSU that actually writes checks to LSU for donations including the Athletic Department. As of today until Pete Maravich is inducted to the LSU Sports Hall of Fame LSU will receive nothing from me and I will write a nice long letter explaining why and also when they can expect my next donation. Hopefully more people will do the same, if you want change you have to do something to affect change. Best way to get a University to change their policies is to affect their funds being donated.

You don't need an LSU degree, there are people in the LSU HOF who didn't graduate from LSU.

Amen to that. He is in great shape after having a heart valve operation. Nicest guy you would ever want to meet.

No I don't think a degree should be required for LSU sports HOF. They are recruited to play sports, they are expected to perform and execute above all else. Academics and graduating takes a distance 2nd.

They can say all they want about wanting the athletes to graduate and I'm sure they would like them to graduate, but the drive, pressure, and money (not money for the players)from sports trumps everything else.

These athletes did exactly what everyone wanted them to do by excelling in sports. Nobody gave a shite about their GPA unless it was low enough to prevent them from playing sports.
