Pete Maravich isn't in, as it stands now Patrick Peterson is not eligible.

Getting a degree is kinda the point of college so I'll say yes.

Nothing stopping him from finishing his degree.

Is that even still the rule? Did we let Paul Dietzel and Dale Brown in? Is that just an exception for coaches? If it is the rule, I don't have a problem letting athletes in who left early provided they didn't go play for another school or something.

Yes. Shaq was not inducted until he finished his degree.

And yes, I agree with the rule. I think Maravich's legacy is properly honored even if he's never inducted into the LSU HOF.

I think anyone who would get to the point of being strongly considered to be in the LSU HOF would have been here for a sufficient time and also very unlikely they transferred.

It's such a huge hole though. IMO it takes away from the Hall.

That's just your opinion. Some people have the opinion that it enhances the HOF as it means that the people in it fulfilled their obligations as a student as well as becoming exemplary athletes.

No shite. Hence the acronym "IMO" prefacing the statement.

Look, dicknose, I put that in there because you put that acronym. Don't pull your smarter than the room shite here because you don't agree with the rule of the LSU HOF.

i dont think so

HOF honors your accomplishments on the field, not in the classroom. If they want to have a Hall of Distinguished Alumni that is a different honor IMHO

This had been debated for years. One of the greatest, Crowe Peele, has never gotten in because he didn't finish his degree.

Pistol Pete's situation is different, nothing to say he would not have completed his degree at some point but he unfortunately died early. I don't think there is anyone on this board or that has graduated from LSU that would not say there are exceptions to everything in life and there should be one here.

Pete Maravich should be inducted into LSU's HOF period end of story, there should be an exception to the rule. I am an alumni of LSU and I personally feel it is ridiculous that he has not been inducted to the LSU HOF at this point.

The purpose of a college education is to prepare you for life and to help you earn a living. LSU helped prepare Pistol Pete for his life's work which just happened to be basketball. He was extremely successful in his trade so much so he was inducted into the NBA HOF. LSU helped prepare him for that trade, he should not be penalized for leaving LSU to ply his trade and earn a living. Unfortunately he did not have a chance to finish his degree because he died young, he should not be penalized for it.

What constitutes "sufficient"? 3 years?

Not trying to speak ill of the dead or anything, but he had been out of school for 18 years and retired for 8 when he died. If anything, there is nothing to say he had any intentions of finishing his degree.

I don't think you need a degree from LSU, you just need to have a degree. Isn't Billy Cannon in the LSU HOF?
