What do ties to Louisiana do for you? So we hire a mediocre coach with a mediocre 11 years at a mid major and we're happy because he has LA ties? shite, our standards are low.
Louisiana ties are important, man. We have to have a guy who knows the area and can keep some of these players in state. However, there are a lot of other guys out there with Louisiana ties too.
I still am sticking to my opinion that I like Johnny Jones, but I'd rather get someone else as our coach.

My standards are realistic. Why would a big time coach come here? It's nice to talk about Shaka Smart, Brad Stevens, or Jaime Dixon, but it's unrealistic.
But all of the guys I listed are very realistic (especially the top three). I think we need to meet somewhere in the middle.

Don't put me in the group that believes those are realistic. But I don't think it's dumb to avoid trying to throw a shite ton of money, which we have, at a guy like Buzz Williams or Gregg marshall and make those guys turn us down. shite, I can think of ten other names that would be better options than Jones.

Did he ever graduate? I thought you had to be a collage Grad to be a head coach anyway?
RL graduated from the University of Phoenix through a program offered by the NBA.

LSU is a much better job then the one occupied by 2 of these coaches. And we truly could commit to the basketball program and put the money there to make it an awesome job for the right person. I don't know if we will EVER do that, but the football program affords us that luxury IMO.

I just disagree. We went to a Final Four with LA kids signed by a terrible human that had no LA ties in John Brady.

To me, it's just an unemotional, nothing kind of hire. Meh is my only reaction. What is exciting about him?

Start with Buzz -- rumor is he's not happy with new Pres and AD at Marquette. Would have to dig deep to afford him. He is said to be making 2.6 with his latest extension. Would be an absolute home run hire.
Then move to Mick Cronin -- A less expensive and lower profile version of Buzz. Would be a very solid hire.
Then take a run at Josh Pastner -- Another great young coach.
If those 3 are misses, than go after Floyd. It is reported that he has shown interest in LSU previously. We could do a lot worse than Tim Floyd.
I would be ecstatic with any of those 4. After that, Kermit Davis and Tommy Amaker would be great options.

It's not better than Butler right now. Not at all. VCU, yes though. But he turned down Illinois, he's not coming here. And why would anyone even joke about Jaime Dixon? Is that a mean joke or something?

That class had nothing to do with Brady. It was a complete anomaly that really can't be used as any kind of point.
All of those guys were coming here no matter who the head coach was.
Plus, there were Louisiana ties on Brady's staff.

meh, he had been here for like 8 or 9 years by that point. That's close enough to ties. Plus his "ties" were the fact that 2 of the starters on that team were a package deal from CT2 (Baby and Temple) 1 was Pierre's godson (Tasmin) and 2 were awesome players lightly recruited by anyone else.

Floyd would come running if we called.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone here! See my thread on wanting the Athletic Department to make a big commitment to Mens Basketball. I'd love for us to throw money after a huge name, but I don't see it happening.
It's going to be Johnny Jones because it's the easy hire.

LSU is a better job then Butler is. He would get a lot better talent at LSU, get paid more money, and have better facilities. Just because Butler has had a better team the past few years, doesn't make it a better job. Dixon was the guy I was leaving out.
ETA: and what did Illinois offer?

My point is that you just need to be able to recruit, and you can recruit LA. I give Brady little to no credit for those guys, who were all coming here no matter what.
But if you think a guy can recruit elsewhere, why can't he recruit here? Jones hasn't been here on a day-to-day basis in forever. What actual ties does he really have but guys from the 80's?

Not to change the subject, but didn't John Brady coach at Zachary High?

I know you're leaving Dixon out, it's the most ridiculous person on that list.
But Butler has far better fan support than LSU and has for quite some time.

If he did I didn't know that.
