We could do worse, but the heat would kill him.

Hope you are right here. First thing I thought of when I saw Trent was leaving.

1) his mother played volleyball for LSU
2) he claims its his lifelong dream
3) he's be the first hoopster from JCCS to go to LSU

And? Just because he coached under Dale doesn't make him Dale. You can look at his NT record and see he's clearly not Dale.

Again, I don't want JJ either.

His mom played at LSU and his dad played at SU so I wouldn't worry.

Nah, I was just saying that him turning down Illinois wouldn't make me feel like he's an option for us considering they have some good things as a basketball program up there

I agree that Illinois is a better job, but it isn't a huge huge margin. I do think LSU has more money to throw at the basketball program then Illinois, and a whole lot of other big name schools though. I know we won't do it, but the ability to do it is there. I'd love to see us upgrade to the best facilities and then hire a mercenary to come in and Nick Saban us into an upper tier basketball school. He can even leave after 5 years. lol

Look up their history, it's a pretty big margin.

Illinois - zero national titles and 5 final fours

LSU - Zero national titles and 4 final fours.

No one cares about much else.

I don't think there is any possible way the Board of Supervisors would approve Jones or Floyd

Pearl still has a show cause hanging over his head

Collins is intriguing

Alleva is not going to hire someone with a past infraction stench on them. That is just not his MO

I have been around La high school basketball since the late 90s and I can tell you flat out that the rep around the state is LSU basketball has been disconnected from the HS basketball scene since Dale left. They still get kids because they are LSU but they lose kids they have no business losing

Whomever they hire as HC his first phone call should be to Timmy Byrd to offer the asst/bag man title to. He knows everybody and gets shite done

False. Tourney appearances matter. Fan support matters. Not to mention unlike the incorrect idea among our fans that locking down Louisiana recruits give us a Sweet 16 every season, that could actually happen at Illinois if they just locked down just the Chicago metro.

I think the difference between Jones and Floyd is that Jones' shite happened here.

I want Pearl. I think it would be worth it in the long run.

Would be awesome, in my opinion.

If he'd do it, it would be a great addition. He really does know everyone.

Thanks for the response!

There are more basketball players in a 200-mile radius of Indianapolis (Butler) than there are around Baton Rouge. Plus,
basketball talent is nearby in Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Southern Illinois. Population is in their favor. Plus the sport is big-time in the Midwest.

LSU has a history of feast and famine in basketball. We cannot put all of our eggs in one basket. We need a staff with contacts in a variety of sections of the country. Dale Brown had good players from Louisiana, but he got good players from out-of-state, too.

There are people on and around the BOS that were at LSU in the 90s

What the NCAA proved only scratched the surface of what was going on because all they wanted was dale brown out. Once that happened they let up and didn't completely decimate the program.

Floyd is dirty, got forced out on a scandal, is hard to work with and is way past his prime.

Pearl with a show cause would be like hiring half a head coach and he is not an Alleva type guy. Alleva is all starched white collars and appearances.

whomever Alleva hires will be clean

If everything you said turns out to be true, I'd go with Chris Collins.

True, so does money though.

I'll take Shaq, Pistol, CJ, BoB Petit, and Rudy Macklin over any 5 you can think of that went to Illinois. Just saying, LSU has had its share of great recruits both out of state and from home. I agree that just locking the state down isn't enough. Remember that Illinois has a lot of other schools close by going for that same talent pool though.

Of all the Duke assistants in the past, Wojo has always been the one that struck me as a guy who can come into his own.

An NCAA investigation absolved Floyd of any wrong-doing.

A football hero/athletic director made Floyd a scapegoat without a thorough investigation.

He is no longer the AD at USC or anywhere else for that matter.

Floyd is still in the game.

+1

I'm liking Drew more and more. He's basically Dale Brown version 2.0.
