just to save people the trouble of counting, out of 15 categories, these are the only 3 that Shoop, in his first year at a school under heavy sanctions and with far less talent, finished behind chavis, who wanted a raise from 1.4 million a year
scoring defense - points per game
LSU - 21.1 (8th)
PSU - 21.7 (13th)
passes defended per game
LSU - 5.78 (17th)
PSU - 4.89 (36th)
fumbles forced per game
LSU - 0.78 (59th)
PSU - 0.56 (78th)

Shoop or Venables would be great hires. We wouldn't miss a beat on Defense if we got one of these guys.
its insane for a college team to have that much experience, at every position, all over the field.
his numbers were never this good at OU. I'd wait a year to make a decision on him at Clemson.

What about doing an adjustment factor to account for the differences between conferences?
The offenses that Bama, LSU and TCU faced are very different from what Clemson and PSU faced.....
that may prove to be an important factor to consider..... the rankings being on an apples to apples basis.
I suspect that TCU will come out looking like the best coaching job.

Hire the TCU guy.........

So basically Saban and Chief have the most talent with the poorest results. Patterson is a fricking maniac on D with a huge gap in talent from the other guys. Venables and Shoop are geat with above average talent so it stand to reason they would be exceptional with the talent Bama or LSU carries on the roster.
If you put this much work into your posts, it's no wonder it took you a week for each post on WWTDD. Let's hire Shoop/Venables, bring Ensminger into the office, and hire BeBe. Game set match.

Im in denial about that. suffice to say Im not a fan.
I am not big on Schiano either, but everyone else loves it.. I would rather Shoop, and even Clancy.
Schiano was a lone DC for 1 season, and a HC the rest.. a losing HC. Plus add the fact he would be gone quickly too.. I just don't know

Absolute #1 Hope, but seems like he re-signed.. I would be down for paying him the 1.7Million.. even though it doesn't come from my wallet.

Thanks for the number breakdown. That was an informative read. Is there any way you could pass this info on to somebody that makes the call....... whoever that is.

The fact that Vanderbilt was competitive last year should tell you all you need to know about Shoop

Idk what rankings you were looking at, but white was def a 5-star at the end and either mills or collins was a 4

quote:To me, these are the most important stats to look at. Yards per game is skewed by the amount of plays each team runs, but yards per play is a more fair stat to judge off of. And gettin off the field on third down wins games.
total defense - yards per play
PSU - 4.25 (2nd)
CLE - 4.42 (5th)
ALA - 5.00 (18th)
TCU - 5.02 (20th)
LSU - 5.28 (31st)
opponent 3rd down conversion
CLE - 45 for 164, 27.44 percent (2nd)
TCU - 51 for 181, 28.18 percent (3rd)
PSU - 44 for 144, 31.25 percent (8th)
LSU - 49 for 135, 36.30 percent (24th)
ALA - 74 for 183, 40.44 percent (54th)

youre right, White was a 5 on 24/7 (number 9 overall) and rivals (number 18), but a 4 on scout (number 58), a 4 on espn (number 156), and other places. thats why i just used the composite, so it wouldnt look like I was trying to hedge stuff one way or another

What is the average offense ranking for the sec, acc, and big 10?
That should give you a relative performance comparison.
