I wonder what "substantial" means.

Included is a potentially lucrative incentive clause. CPM and Cain split 10K for every runner thrown out at home.

He earned it this year IMO.

Wish the football program would take the same approach. Reward success, not coaching blandness.

Very happy for the coach. Well deserved, despite what the Rantardesses think.

this. there are no more skip bertman's in college baseball. gorilla ball is dead and it was killed intentionally (most certainly due to LSU's domination). CPM is a player in the upper echelon's of coaches and recruits (and coaches) well enough to be in the hunt just about every year. to win it all it takes the right players getting hot at the right time and it takes some fortuitous breaks (the kind we did not get in the supers). the bottom line is that we probably would not get a better coach but damn sure could get one that's worse.

no matter who our coach is, to some fans there are always better ones, even tho they are unproven. example: Cannizero is a better HC according to some on here. never mind he's not a HC but he's a damn good interviewer on the tube.

If you were in his shoes, you go to your boss and say "Texas is offering me X amount to go there, give me a reason to stay here instead."

Any rational person would do the same. And Mainieri deserves the raise. The odds of his replacement having the same level of success that he's had is not high.

People downvoting posters because everyone is saying they are glad he is coming back are just really dumb. The team we had this year and what we did to earn a national seed was outstanding coaching, 8 new position players, struggles in the early part of the season. Let me ask you all this who else would you rather have??

I know we didnt make the CWS but hosting a Super Regional with the team we placed on the feild is way past expectations from early parts of the year. So just stfu I for one am very glad hes coming back. High School players want to play for a coach like him.

Thank You exactly how I feel. These "fans" have no clue about the sport and how all the right pieces need to be in place in order to win a championship.

I'm not saying he didn't, but it's odd that people are giving him tons of credit for "over achieving" with a team he's completely responsible for building. They weren't supposed to be good, they got hot at the right time to get a national seed, and they flamed out a not very good team. i don't see that huge congrats are necessary for that.

Not sure why everyone is saying "deserves" a raise. Didn't the majority think we would make it to the super and that's it? Is a national seed worth a substantial raise? Why not just change the contract to add in a (more substantial?) bonus when he gets one?

On the other hand, I think LSU had to match Texas to keep Paul. If he market value rises, he'd be an idiot not to force their hand.
