While I completely agree with you, I heard that DJ doesn't think so and wasn't exactly receptive to the idea.

I kind of figured that. I mean when you look at it from his perspective, he is going to be picked in the first 5 rounds of the draft and has played SS his whole life.

I think he is.

mainieri thinks that nola is a better ss than dj
dj has not gotten better for the time he has been here - even batting - should not have struck out in the tulane game - for the last out - if he is a top 5 pick he has to step up - i think he will be back on the team next year
ochinko was demoted last year and has improved at 1st - moves are made to improve the team
schimpf will be ok in left, needs to practice the position a little more and it will come back to him, he is a better 2b now than, lemahieu, but lemahieu and dean are not the defensive answers to lf
if they take the changes the wrong way, they could become another j.t.wise and have to move on.
mainieri wants the best team on the field and the season is not over.
errors are not the only judge of your play- theriot made errors becuase he was getting to balls that others could not get to
nola made plays last night that lemahieu, could not make 7 will never make
it not what you did for me last week, it is what you can do now -- some names j. bogany, j.t.wise, j ogata, rene escobar, d helenihi, landry and i hope not gibbs - got to get his bat going

If you are referring to what I said, this is what I said,

I firmly believe that DJ will be picked in the first 5 rounds of the draft playing the way he has been playing.

Yes, he is. DJ is a way better infielder than Schimpf.

Schimpf is not smooth when he has to make the throw to first on a double play.

No errors and 3 double plays. We're last in the SEC with 17 DPs

Is there a stat somewhere at the opportunities thay had for DP's? If they don't get the ground ball too often sometimes the pitchers are not keeping the ball down enough in the strike zone and inducing the ground ball. I have noticed the lack of production there and it is a problem.

No stat that I'm aware of.

We can make all the excuses we want for not turning more DPs. It's pretty clear Mainieri thinks we should be turning more. And he thinks Nola at SS will make the infield better and adding another right-handed batter will give us more balance. It also gets a struggling Landry out of the lineup.

I think it's really late in the season to be making such a huge change. It tells me Mainieri is really worried about this team. That makes me worry, too.

Hope it works.

YES, schimpf does a good job, but we've had several chances at turning two and RS doesn't turn it quick and has a weaker arm than DJ

that is the reason for the lack of 6-4-3 dp. when RS catches it at 2nd he can't get enough on it to turn it.

Dj is projected as a second round selection. He would have to be really enjoying the college experience to turn down the money he will be offered. I don't know his family's financial situation but I don't expect to see him in an LSU uniform next year. I think PM knows this as well. Thus the move will not hurt DJ. In fact it may increase his value.
