So this is going to make them try harder? It don't matter. Talk is cheap.

fans believing players get more "fired up" because of the oppositions comments is one of the silliest misconceptions in athletics.

after the kickoff, do you really believe auburn is going to care what shephard said on wendesday after practice? i mean, reallllly? cmon...

That is likely true, but you don't give a team something to get fired up about. I've said time and again that being fired up only lasts about a qtr to a half, but being minus your #1 RB and your #1 AND #2 CB doesn't help things much. If Auburn comes out fired up and get ahead by a TD or more in the 1st half, thats the kind of things that help a team stay pumped for the whole game. We don't need that.

He could have made the same exact statement without insulting their players by saying simply......."Their coaches do a great job of putting their players in a position to make great plays"......thats being smart.

If this is what it takes to "fire up" the defending National Champs coming into Death Valley for a CBS game against the #1 ranked team in the country...then shame on AU.

Shepard is a clown, and not even an above average SEC receiver. Beckham is much better.

Pump the brakes there Big Boy, Shep has been a fine ambassador of our great institution and a positive influence up to this point in time in his career. I think that "Clown" statement is a little over the top.

If the AU players need this little blurb to be fired up to play LSU then this game is already over

the fact that he has been a fine ambassador, and I agree, does not take away the stupidity of his remarks at a time when we will also be some players short.
There is nothing smart about giving the other team psychological fuel.
