LSU reserve forward Shareef O'Neal is scheduled to visit a foot specialist Wednesday.

Wednesday meaning yesterday.

Coach Will Wade said on his weekly radio show Tuesday night that the 6-foot-10 O'Neal, who has proven to be a capable rebounder despite limited minutes, could be out for an extended amount of time.

While the exam is pending, Wade didn't sound too optimistic.

"We're not sure when, or if, we'll get him back this year," Wade said. "He could be on the shelf for a while. We have to see how (the examination) turns out."

That’s a bummer. I like His energy. Everyone said not to expect too much from him based off his recruiting hype and last name, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I wish I could remember where I read that our defensive effemciency goes way up when Shareef is on the floor.

Throughout the season this sounded like the issues they had last year with Taylor and Manning. Manning had a break (actually 2) but Taylor was kind of an unknown from week to week early (and to some degree later) with "foot issues."

You hate it for O'Neal. His whole career thus far seems to be plagued with starts and stops. He was giving LSU good minutes in the 5 games he's played since Jan. 1.

How long has he had this issue and why hadn't this visit with a specialist already been done?

This sucks for shareef he's gone through a bunch of shite in his college career. Hopefully he can bounce back this season or be ready for the start of next

Honestly I'm not sure exactly how long he's had it. He did come back and play on it though. Maybe they thought it would heal again and that didn't turn out to be the case.

Which is why wade should have been developing gray all this time. A player needs game time experience to develop

I hope that helps. Didn't see much effort or "want to" in the little time he was in the game.
In contrast, Fudge is already showing he is ready to play, with just a few weeks of practice.
If Shareef can get healthy, the lack of height will not be a problem next season.

I'm pretty sure that we knew Gray was a project before the season began. Losing Penn-Johnsom really hurt us. Now losing O'Neal is gonna force Gray into playing time before he's ready.
