I wish I had the nads and literary skills to anonomously call an innocent poster on a message board a "c*cks*cker". Well played.

No I'm pretty sure Bama fans would win it every year.

How about the steady decline in defense and fundamental play since the Miles era began
The LSU teams that Finished #3 in Total Defense in 2005, 2006 & 2007 culminating in & SEC championshiop & National Championship? Yep, real steady decline there...
Did LSU hire Les Miles to Win Football games or to apease "Fans" that complain about playcalling Schemes & other things?
You tell me, what is the goal of a College hiring a Football coach?

But you have to admit, especially after being a fan for so long, that the statements many of these people make are fricking despicable. We've been through times when the Tigers were really bad and should appreciate how good we have it. Hence NOT talking about firing a coach who won a fricking championship 10 months ago...
And his record is talent, and talent alone. He hasn't flopped as quickly as Archer did because he's still able to recruit good athletes. It's just clear that said athletes aren't being coached very well. They're (as I said) sloppy and, well, you've seen the defense, right?
So anyway, if getting the cold shoulder is what I get in exchage for being sick of single-minded judgement, I guess I'll take it. Like I said, I've seen this before.

Just in case it got overlooked:
Average Points allowed per season under Saban:
226.8
Average Points allowed per season under Miles (through 2007 season):
209.3

Exactly! I've seen this posted several hundred times: "It's clear, the wheels have come off under Miles".

Thats what we call a contradiction. Here is the thing about coaching; when you call something and it works, you're a good coach. when you call something and it doesn't work, you need to be fired.
WOW, that's exactly what I mean. That's what most "fans" don't understand. Something that works in a situation where you are facing a grossly overmatched (remember, they were frickING TROY, right?) opponent, if it's a bad idea, WON'T work against an elite opponent (and haven't). I can make all kinds of stupid moves in chess if I'm playing a 5 year-old, but come time to play someone of my own skill level, those moves WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE THEY'RE frickING FOOLISH. So, am I a grandmaster because I beat the five-year-old? No.
But when he does something similar gainst UF or UGA or Bama and gets busted, I'll look for you on these boards.

Talent inherited by Saban - SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE (for a 119 team league).
Talent inherited by Miles - ELITE
Easy answer. Come on.

Oh yeah, that defense was awesome. I especially liked how we got slapped around by UK and Arkansas (with their awesome high school offense) and pretty much couldn't stop anyone past Va. Tech on the schedule. Do you happen to have a link to where we were ranked in the top 10 overall defense at the end of that year? But I guess you believe that the departure of Pelini ha just a night and day effect on the defense?
2005 and 2006 were very well coached defenses, just not by the people who were there at the time.

In 37 years you haven't figured out that ANY team can beat another team once the ball is in play? Look at Mami of Ohio 1986. You want to question Bill Arsparger & the "Decline of Defense" during his regime?
Before you do that, you might want to look up 1972 Miami Dolphins.

Just like all great programs, a lot of gutless bandwagon fans have latched on to the LSU Tigers. The same fans who, if they were even out of diapers then, are clueless about the struggles of the 1980 and especially early 1990 seasons.
they have effectively priced a lot of the true fans out of the stadium and the games are more of a social event than anything

This might be mostly a jackass thread, but this one point caught my eye.
Saban inherited a pretty talented team. Keep in mind the coaching staff before him was lining up Craig Nall at WR at times as Josh Reed was sitting on the bench.

Those were ranked 3rd and were in the "Les Miles Era".

To tell you the truth, I am certain through limited contact and the experiences of friends, that Les Mies is 10,000 times the human being that Saban is, but for those of us who lived though the Archer years, this is very familiar. I HOPE I'M WRONG. Seriously.
And people are wrong when they say that being demanding is bad. If you remember, being demanding about success inregard to Curly, DiNardo and Saban is what led to success. I remember even ESPN saying (and I remember watching a young Chris Fowler say it) "I don't know why LSU fans expect such a level of success. It's not like they have a history of it."
It realy doesn't take long to see if a coach is elite or not, and despite the record (which I really do think is due to talent), I think there are some serious red flags. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Go look at the draft board, Saban inherited 14 NFL Players & 6-8 Free Agents (I believe) many of whom stuck. Not to mention a ton of very good football players at the college level, like LB'er Trev Faulk..

in all seriousness, one thing saban would have never tolerated is the negative reactions and bitching at each other the team was doing in the first half to each other and the staff
that is my one complaint about comparing miles vs saban

Neat. Can you isolate the second half of the season? Also, can we see 2008?
And before you remind me of how awesome the players we faced were, I'd like point out that other, supposedly lesser teams didn't have too much trouble beating the ever-living shite out of them.
But because of the miraculously attained title that should have been BLOWN after Arkansas, we are stuck with him for another decade or so.
In that case, nevermind. He's not Archer. He's Fulmer.
See you at the end of next season. In fact, I'll be looking for you.
