The question I have is how did they learn of the contents of a private conversation. This is an abuse of power IMO.

You just asked how they got that info, how do you think it was abuse of power then if you don't know?

But does it not bother you that Cam was suspended and reinstated in 12 hours or so.

The Barn bet the Farm last year....they were going to play Cam no matter what..they won the NC and will deal with the consequences later...

like when you broke curfew as a kid...if you were 10 minutes late, you may as well be an hour late cuz ya gonna get your arse whipped anyway

KCinDC has the correct story, the rest is bullshite:
quote:

He's not suspended -- he has been declared ineligible by the LSU athletic department, which has applied to the NCAA to have his eligibility restored.

He was declared ineligible because he was found to have discussed with a teammate that teammate's upcoming "testimony" to the NCAA staff as part of an investigation. Such advance discussion is expressly prohibited by NCAA rules. According to one story I read yesterday (can't remember where so I don't have a link), the investigation was about the Lyles situation, not his housing issue.

Nobody should kid themselves into believing that discussing with another party what they are going to tell investigators is anything other than a serious matter.

The basic problem is that as a non-governmental org, they are really limited in their investigations and depend greatly on the participants to follow the rules. From their perspective this is a biggie. However, I think this was an obviously innocent indiscretion on Shep's part, so that should mitigate things. But I think he's going to have to pay a price, since the NCAA can't turn a blind eye to this.

IIRC

Cam was ruled ineligible, and very quietly for that matter, by Auburn themselves.

Then they called the NCAA and asked to have him reinstated. The NCAA, having "nothing" on him to keep him ineligible, reinstated him the next day.

It was mainly a big show on the part of Auburn for the public.

I don't really know the details of who, but based on what I've heard Miles say, it was an innoncent conversation. It came to the attention of the NCAA while they were interviewing Shep and he told them about it. There was no choice at that point but to suspend him.

Important to remember that Auburn declared Cam ineligible solely for the $$$ offer to his father from the Mississippi State booster -- not because of anything related to his recruitment by Auburn. The reinstatement by the NCAA was therefore only on this basis. To my knowledge, Cam and Auburn have still not yet been cleared of anything that might come out of the investigation of his recruitment by Auburn. This is why I think Chizik's reported raising the question with the NCAA staffer in the seminar earlier this year seemed foolish to me. It suggests that Chiz didn't understand this subtlety, which I would find hard to believe.
