I guess people have to fabricate issues when you share the regular season title and run through the SECT and get a national seed.

It's not fabrication. Maybe you haven't watched some of his recent outings. He's been struggling a bit.

I'll go first...where is Walker???
ETA: and Watson, simply for defense alone??

Glad this team has proven me right. I was on their side all along.

Im happy as shite we won.
But the season isnt over. The most important part is up ahead. If you want to stick your head in the sand and not be worried about our most important bullpen position looking shaky then go ahead, because we just had to intentionally walk the winning run...
I dont think CPM is an idiot for going to Newman. I dont think Newman is a terrible pitcher. But you cant rely on a performance like we just saw going forward.

I mean obviously I'd rather him not ever give up any runs. He's done a pretty goddamn good job of that all season.

No one is trashing Newman. But let's say this was for cws championship, you Newman aplologizers still want to take Hess out after a handful of pitches when he's on, and roll the dice with Newman?
Guy has not been the same after returning from injury. Don't like pulling a fresh Hess who is having a good outing. Play with fire...

His last few appearances have been shaky. This isnt an overreaction based on one bad inning. This is turning into a trend that showed its head i a championship game. We're right to be a little worried.

People are making it a way bigger deal than it should be. But going forward in similar situations where Hess is rolling to end the 8th I hope Mainieri let's him pitch the 9th until a base runner

I think it's more of getting Newman pitches this week. If we are playing for our postseason lose and go home, he leaves Hess in
Posted on 5/28/17 at 6:05 pm to Tiltinallin
Maybe so and I'd have been OK with leaving in Hess for sure. It's just silly to act like going with your sub-1 ERA closer when you have a 3-run lead is some kind of roll of the dice.

It's mind blowing that your comment and those that share your sentiment are being downvoted. It's absolutely within reason to be concerned with Newman

It's like today is the exception. But for all the good Newman has done in the past, today has been typical as of late.
And as for his ERA, it is deceptive in that the majority of it was pre-sec and it is a fact that he missed a lot of sec games due to injury. Upon return, today's Newman is today's Newman. Not an attack on the guy. I just don't think he's the best guy in today's situation. If Hess was off, or had pitched a number of innings, then I'm more than ok with it. Just not a good situation to be on the verge of having to go get him. Hopefully he becomes the Newman he once was, and loses the one he's been last few outings.
Hess was the bird in hand, Newman was the bird in the bush

What'd he miss, 2 weeks? Come on, man. His ERA at this point speaks for itself.
