Oh, and we also have the most marketed team in the country. Helps when the University of Oregon has a partnership with Disney, the parent company of ESPN. Every thing, from our mascot to our uniforms to our players to our fans, gets marketed by ESPN

Oregon has pulled out all the stops to become "popular" with recruits and it may work on a few, but will never put Oregon in the elite. Recruits may not care that much for tradition, but most are not going to give a rats arse about changing uniform style every week, some of them just gawd awful. It takes a combination of tradition, exposure, putting players in the NFL, quality coaching and fan support to put together and keep quality recruiting classes on a regular basis.

If Oregon's silly uni's look good to them, well good for them. Of actual importance, they will be going against an elite team from the elite conference. Their Uni's are not going to matter one whit against LSU's nationally-respected tried-and-true white and gold, which have been worn by a team that has ground to dust many of the high and mighty. We'll see if Oregon can scratch out a win against a mighty opponent once in a while.

Tradition works if you're in a recruiting "hotbed" like Louisiana and the rest of the South (we all know why it's a hotbed but we don't need to say it) and if you're not lucky to be geographically located around these "hotbeds" then you need to do other things to set yourself apart.

Oh good one....I havent heard that one before. Forgive me for taking ownership of a school that I have a degree from (and earning another) and the team that represents said institution. I will never make that mistake again

Oh okay in that case my deepest apologies. I just thought you were on LSU's roster, cause you know soooooooo much about Oregon's football team.

Thanks for your life story though, but it really wasn't needed....

Lol at any Oregonean touting the hottness of their own women. As one who has spent many many months in Oregon. My business partner lives in Vancouver wash. So I know Portland and mt Hood, sandy Eugene Ashland etc and I can say without a doubt Oregon has sprouted trolls on a level on par w Gollum. Hint its never sunny it rains 24 7 and people sit around eat drink and have kids
All the blondes are imports all the UO cheerleader are imports and are ringers hired by Nike's marketing whatnots
Often driving from Portland to mt hood I would see some local walk from the inside of the woods across the highway and back into the black woods on the other side and.disappear obviously on some back wood neighbours trail

don't buy into the propaganda the women in the south destroy the best Oregon has to offer

I understand what your saying, but the uniforms and clothes and other hoopla don't win football games on their own. It's like Vegas lights, you get them to come and they will play. Seems to be working in my eyes.

Not gonna lie, I have always pulled for the Ducks. I have some family up there, the day they debuted the wings look, I became a fan.
I was pretty pumped they used the concept for all their uniforms in '09.
I liked having a left coast team to pull for, as I'm a huge fan of college football in general. I actually ordered a few shirts for my "birthday" present last year, two of them being Oregon shirts. Needless to say I haven't worn those shirts this summer.

it's been increasing under chip kelly and they were the 2nd best team in the country with lower touted recruits than they coming in now. It'll be interesting to see what happens when his recent classes come of age. It'll be very fun for Chip kelly using 4* and 5* RBs, instead of 4* and 3*. 4* linemen instead 3*, 2* and walk ons. 4* WRs instead of 3,2 and walkons. And now he is finally getting the type of QB he wants in for the system. The kids under Thomas are faster (by Oregon's fitness tests) and have stronger arms. I like Chip and think he has a great future. He'll never get top 5 classes consistently but he's a good enough coach that he can be a contender every year with top 10 to top 15 classes.

The whole point was that rekindling our relationship with Knight actually got recuits to simply look at us. Oregon only produces 2-4 legitimate Div. 1 recruits every year, so we have to recruit elsewhere to get the players needed to win. We had incredible coaches along the way. Rich Brooks coached us out out of the pits of 1981 to a bowl game by 1989, which we won. From there, we continued to make strides and got to the Rose Bowl with Brooks and the Cotton Bowl with Bellotti in 1995 and 1996. It was not getting some (moral) victories that helped us maintain our success, it was the attention generated by just being different that put us on people's radars.

If not for Knight and company stepping in and making Oregon simply known to potential recruits, we probably would not be where we are today, headlining the one of the most-hyped season openers ever.

Nowadays, while I love the tradition and pageantry of college football, I am far more satisfied that Oregon can at least field a competitive team much less be considered one of the best. Its amazing to me to think about just how far we have come in 30 years.

Your missing the whole point....we recruit to our needs and who we can get that fits the best in our system. We don't need all the 4 and 5 star recruits in the country. Look were that has got USCW. LMJ 3 star recruit, look what he has done as a no name, He was buried on the depth chart underneath names like Johnathan Stewart, Jeremiah Johnson, Blount. If we ran your style of football then we would be going after those guys. If look at our recuiting numbers right now....they suck balls, but Chip is getting the people he feels fits the system, the program and the schools academic polocies. Yet with a new head coach that was working with another coaches guys and having to find a way to make them fit. Man I don't know how to explain it any better. The main thing I have heard from some of the new recruits that I have talked to....it wasn't the uniforms. It was the systems and stability of the coaching staff. You guys win championships year in and year out....and then your coaches bailout for greener pastures. That means alot to some recruits.

Ever thought maybe you made it to the championship game cause you only had to beat one ranked team? You would have lost 2-3 in the SEC.

You can e a contender with those types of classes because you are in an inferior conference. You recruiting in the sEc would put you about even with Arky, which is to say seventh in recruiting here.

I mean, my god, you had to beat one good team last year to make it to the championship. Stnford did not beat a single ranked team and made it to a bcs bowl.

LSU Arkansas and Alabama would have all made it to the BCS title game with your schedule.

They beat #14 Virginia Tech pretty bad, but I am sure you won't acknowledge that since they are not an SEC team.

As for our conference.....is it our fault that USCW got caught cheating cause they are always a ranked team. Do we want our conference teams to be better......yes, but apparently we are good enough for LSU to schedule us. So I think things are looking up.
