Toliver has said they saw it on tape from USC a bunch and knew it was coming that play. My point (and then I'll shut up) wasn't that there wasn't a fake hand-off, only that it had nothing to do with the corner blitz or Toliver being open.

I'm fairly sure (without rewatching it) that the play action to Trindon took one of the safeties out of the picture

After careful consideration and reading these great posts I've changed my mind. We just got lucky. Toliver didn't know what route to run. JJ threw a wild duck out there and Holiday lined up in the wrong position. sometimes you just get lucky.

Dude the play was a zone read play. The old play that mauck used to run that Vince young made famous.
It was a zone read left Tribdon pulled off the ball cause he thought JJ was going to keep it cause JJ is supposed to be reading the d End on that and if that guy crashes he keeps it around the corner.
Tollicer many tines throughout the game let Jefferson know if there was a corner blitz coming on that play. Tolliver dud that here and just stopped so JJ could get him the ball fast. He made a man miss and the band played
