I've heard the SEC is down this year but it is apparent it is stronger than ever. This years CFP results prove this.

1. Clemson, conference champ
2. OU, conference champ
3. Georgia, conference champ
4. Alabama, third place conference finish with one win over a top 15 opponent.
5. OSU, conference champ
6. Wisconsin, one loss to a conference champ and top 5 national seed.
7. Auburn, destroyed the #3 and #4 seed (at game time both #1's) in a three week span and lost a close one to the #1 seed. Subsequently jumped by the team they just pummeled.

The SEC is unbelievable when they can put a third place team in the top 4.

In reality, only Bama could possibly get this treatment. No other SEC once loss team would get this pass. At least in 2011 you could make the case that Alabama was the second best team in the SEC, this year the results on the field prove otherwise.

A much better case can be made for OSU, Wisc or Auburn to get a ticket to the dance.

As long as they have saban, they are guaranteed a playoff spot.

Bama is judged by a different standard. They are the only team that does not have to worry about a loss. This is the third time they have lost late in the season and still gotten a ticket to the show. No other team can claim this remarkable feat.

Alabama is a program of firsts. They are the first 3rd place finisher from any conference to advance to play for an NC. You can bet this will never happen again unless it is a repeat from Alabama.

Bama is wholly worthy of a playoff spot. Everyone agrees they would run roughshod over Ohio St. or USC, and would annihilate a newcomer such as UCF.

Like I said, the SEC Strength is at an all time high. Everybody agrees the 3rd best team in the SEC with their incredibly impressive resume of wins over Top teams would run roughshod over the Big 10 and PAC 12 Champs.

You made some very valid points but I can’t say I agree with this statement. Ohio State lost 2 games. One was a 31 point loss to a bunch of white boys in Iowa and the other was about a 15 point loss to OU in their own back yard. Wisconsin is salty but much like LSU they don’t have the QB to take them to the promise land. Auburn is now a 3 loss team. That Pac 12 champ lost two game and one of those games they were clubbed like a baby seal to the tune of a 35 point beat down to Notre Dame.

Bad as I hate it Alabama deserves that 4th spot. And it’s gonna make me puke if Bama is the only team to win two natties and not win their conference or even their division. Hopefully Clemson punks them.

To say this you have to dismiss the results on the field. Bama is the 3 seed from the SEC. Bama was man handled one week before by Auburn. On the field the SEC had two teams better than Bama. That counts everywhere with the exception of the Alabama "eye ball" test we have to hear about every year.

Speaking of getting clubbed, Georgia was wholly destroyed three weeks ago and bounced back. Ohio State was destroyed by Iowa and also bounced back. Both are conference champs and neither lost their final game of the year.

What is Alabama in comparison? Sitting at home healing while others take their lumps being rewarded for losing with no wins over a top 15 team and not only not a conference champ but not even a conference runner up.

Alabama does not have the resume to be in based on this 3rd place SEC finish with a lack of a big time win. They have been given a ticket on reputation only.

What games are you watching??? Outside of Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn, the SEC is mediocre to bad..

It's called sarcasm. The Committee obviously thinks its strong since a 3 seed without a solid win still gets in the dance.

You made my point. Alabama beat NOBODY this year but mediocre to bad SEC teams and still gets a ticket. How?

2011 was the SEC’s peak. This year is extremely far from that. Every team besides Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia is extremely mediocre.

You’ve “heard” the SEC is down this year? Did you notice how many teams replaced their coaches and/or ended the year with a losing record? The conference was a dumpster fire this year.

They wanted Bama in the playoffs no matter what but they had to take Georgia because they won the conference championship. We’ll see how good those two teams are.

ETA: crap. fished in

So Orgeron went 6-2 in a league that represents half the playoff field? That's not too bad!!

So if Bama goes 9-3 like they did in 2010 you think we're getting in the playoffs?

The issue with the discussion in CFP, is that teams don't play out of conference (nor should they. This is an amateur sport). I don't follow every team and I can't make an intelligent comment about what went on outside the S.E.C

I do think that a national championship winning team isn't one that loses ever to an unranked team. People want to discredit alabama's season because their only 'top 20' wins are LSU, MSU. This is disingenuous. LSU beat Auburn, Auburn beat two teams that were ranked #1.

Saban is right. Had alabama lost to an unranked team in the S.E.C they wouldn't be even having a conversation on whether or not they should be in the conference.

You can take it a step further. When a team that is ranked top 10 loses to an unranked team are tehy really top 10? I'm really skeptical that OSU would be ranked a top 10 if they were playing in the S.E.C west.

The SEC is weak. Alabama and UGA have good records be cause they have feasted on HORRIBLE SEC teams like Carolina, A&M, UK, Vandy, Tenn, Mizzou, Arkansas, Florida, and Ole Miss. It will not surprise me if both UGA and bama lose their semifinal game, each one losing handily.

After watching Alburn destroy Bama......Clemson will quickly show that Bama had no business in this years playoffs. Saban is about to be embarrassed. I got my popcorn ready !

You don't actually believe that do you? A one loss Bama team will ALWAYS get the benefit of the doubt over any other team, period, end of story.

LSU loses as a heavy underdog to #1 Alabama on the road and tumbles in the polls even though they played tougher and better than anyone expected. Alabama gets pushed around by Auburn and drops two spots. Everybody falls hard in the polls with a loss except Bama. They are always judged on a different standard and always given the benefit of any doubt. The third place SEC finish this year and still getting an invite to the NC is more example of the same ole bias.
