No, that's bullshite
I actually don't mind the rule, I think it's fair. But, enforcing it based on situation of the game is 100% bullshite, either it's a penalty or it isn't. If you're going to start with selective enforcement of penalties based on situations, then the entire idea of officials is a fraud.
And I understand the natural tendency of refs in close games and that's fine, they're humans. But coming out and explicitly saying it and doing it consciously? Nahhhh

That IS a bit weird

I say LSU officially petition B'ham to get PAC-12 refs for the Nov 5th game
Is there any way on this green Earth that this would ever happen??? I mean, really, in a game this EPIC, I hate the thought of it being influenced by the Refs.

The rule says "egregious"
The very fact that it is that vague, the rule should be cast away.

I didn't see Wing's taunt in live action from my seat.
I didn't see it on the live call on CBS when I watched it last night. I didn't see it until they did the slo-mo replay from the opposite sideline.
someone needs to get the dictionary page with egregious on it and mail it to every SEC refs.

I'm more concerned that SEC officials get all the calls right in Tuscaloosa on 11/5. History says that they won't.

I'm glad you posted this because it goes exactly with what my comment has been since the moment it happened - that SEC refs would swear and be damned not to let LSU be blowing Florida out 21-0 in the first half on a trick play.
The ref sounded and looked angry when he was announcing the penalty - almost like he was penalizing LSU for running a trick play that ended in a score.

You have never obviously never officiated any sport at any age level. Game management differs in every game. It's just more subtle in Football than it is in a sport like Basketball so you notice it less.
I think the rule committee should revisit this rule, but it's just like a technical foul in basketball. You can call one in the 1st or 2nd quarter but if the game is close late in the second half it better be something terrible before you stick a player or coach

this is shite. if it's a penalty it's a penalty.
this. if the game situation dictates the penalty then there is absolutely no justice in the SEC officiating... for any team, not just LSU

The rule is fine. The penalty is over reaching.

They acted like wing flipped everyone off

All I know is if T Rich or any Bama player so much as high steps or glances in a semi-taunting way nov 5 while they are going into the endzone, we better see the hanky on the field, regardless of the score.

+ infinity
Here's another scenario on this topic that's part of history...of course it happened in the NBA.
No call?
Did the officials truly miss MJ pushing Russell before taking the shot, or was it a no-call because of the situation?

No, I havent ever officiated
But like I said, I know the mindset of an official late in a game is different. My problem is the head of officials coming out and saying it

I've seen much worse just this year done by players going into the endzone.

Steve Shaw was the best on-field official in the SEC regardless of whether he is a Bama grad.
I would take him over any other in the SEC.

LSU better not even look at any bama players funny on November 5th.

I agree with that point. He kinda threw his guys under the bus with that one.

With little Nicky at Bama don't look for fair Ref. To begin with the SEC officials suck! They have influenced more than 1 ball game . They have favorite teams & it shows. 2 years ago against Bama When Peterson made his interception They said it was out of bounds. Worst call in football history! But nothing ever changes, the Refs. just do what they want.
