Just add Texas and A&M to the west and Miami and Fla St to the East. LSU would gain Texas and A&M as yearly opponents, lose Fla as a permanent opponent, and only play 1 team from the East. Sounds good to me.

2 Things:
1. Expansion is strictly about football. SEC would never expand for basketball.
2. Texas and TAMU are a package deal. you'll never get one and not the other.

How great a conference would it be to add texas and Ou to the west and f.s.u. and miami to the east? that would be awesome. However, Texas will never join the s.e.c., to scared of the recruiting war.

well while we are dreaming....I'd like to see TX or Ta&M in West (although both really long drives from BR) Schools around Houston would be more ideal.

and GT and Fl St in East. GT is in hotlanta and FL st is a hell of a lot closer than Gainsville

I think it would be bad for SEC to add 4 or even 2 more marquee football programs. Name me a team that would get through that schedule undefeated? Conference champ would have one or two losses.

I'd like to think the SEC is smart enough not to add 4 powerhouse programs. 2 big boys + 2 from mid majors like USM and Memphis.

If other conferences go to 16 teams then we will have to. It is almost certain the Big 10 will do this next month by adding syracuse, pitt, rutgers,Uconn, Notre Dame (or possibly nebraska if ND declines) When this happens, SEC and the PAC 10 will have to scramble to snatch up the best teams from the big 12 and the acc. The SEC was the first to go to 12 and we experienced huge revenue increases b/c of this. The SEC always has to be the biggest. I would like us to get Gtech, texas, Texas a&M, fsu or clemson. I think we are in the best position of any conference to get Texas. Texas A&M will have to go where ever UT goes. If UT decides to leave the big 12 for either the SEC or pac 10, the big 12 will dissolve.

I sort of sit back and laugh at this idea having seen how many people scoff at the idea of a National Championship going to a Conference.

IF the SEC added teams like Texas or FSU (maybe Miami)how would that HELP LSU in any way? I just don't see it.... add MORE potentially top programs and the "wealth" only gets spread that much thinner.

The NC may be from the SEC year in and year out --- but I just don't see any team coming through the league undefeated and I see every teams overall chances of winning the Conference Championship deminished.

For those who think LSU is winning enough championships now (it's been 2 seasons after all ) expanding the conference with additional potential top programs would be a death nell.... in my opinion, of course.

I don't want aTm because that would hurt us in recruiting. Same reason I wouldn't want to add Houston to the SEC.

Memphis, USM, Georgia Tech and Florida State would be my top choices.

Great, let's just add another shitty Vanderbilt type team.

Maybe USM, Troy or TCU.

Seriously?

Doesn't matter. The only reason they are talking about this is b/c it is setting up football for a playoff. Nobody would have to go undefeated anymore.

Another reason I'd love to see the SEC adding teams like Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, and Florida State is because it only makes it look more and more like the best conference. No other conference could argue anything.

I just don't see memphis in the the SEC, for the same reason why Boise state will not be in the PAC 10, Academics

Super Conferences = Playoff's.

You probably end up with 2 to 3 teams from each conference in the play off chase. It's not really that hard to imagine or even put down on paper. A 3rd grader could do it.

Closer to Kentucky than Vandy. Awesome at basketball and respectable in football. Don't know if you notice, but they pretty much play Ole Miss in football every year and even though the last two years were lop sided, the two previous years were two point games. Plus, they are finally starting to spend some money on football and will be a much better program.

Don't know if you noticed this, but if Memphis football had to play 8 SEC teams in 1 yr, they'd get killed. Don't tell me they are a good football program b/c they play Ole Miss tight 2 years in a row. That's their bowl game pal, of course they are going to play up for it. Bottom line is they are still a Conference USA team. Always will be. And we'll see what happens to their basketball team now the Calipari is gone.

All other sports they suck, and I know some of you idiots don't care about softball, gymastics, track and field, but they all matter. Memphis can't compete with the UF's, Bama's, UGA's, etc.

Memphis was a basketball school long before Calipari showed up.

while we are restructuring, why not make it it North-South
or have 4 divisons of 4 teams.

As a wvu fan i would love to see wvu in the SEC, but I think the 4 best teams the SEC could get are:

Texas Texas A and M sec west. footprint into Texas and UT is the premier sports program now in terms of market. A and M is a ball and chain with Texas. Texas Legislature will make sure Texas goes nowhere without the Aggies.

From the ACC Clemson and FSU.

All 4 teams travel well and have large rabid fan bases. GT and Miami do not travel well and Miami
has some national appeal left but that is about it.

I see Clemson as better value in terms of getting the best bowl tie ins in the future than Miami. And having Florida and FSU locks up the 2 premier programs in Florida in terms of market and fans. Miami is a pro town.

Also, since every team would have 15 conference teams to play how do you think the schedule would play out?

I could see every team playing one perminate opponet to keep rival games in tact and then playing 7 other conference teams regardless of division. The next year, you could play your one perminate opponet and the other 7 conference teams you did not play the year before. This way, you would play everone in a 2 year period.

Let's not forget about the scheduling issue. There are only 12 games on the schedule. If the above noted scenario is employed, that would mean only ONE seasonal rival game?

For LSU, who would it be? Florida? (Probably not, as they would want to make it Fla St.) That would mean alternating years with the other SEC teams, including Alabama, Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas (Boot Bowl), and Auburn?

Is that what we want to do? Break up traditional seasonal rivalry games in the conference?

I think 16 teams is too big for a conference, because there are only 12 games. The math just doesn't work.
