Season is like Stovall's last year, 1983

LSU went to the Orange Bowl the year before. Then it played Washington early in the season. Washington was ranked and LSU blew it out in Tiger Stadium, 40-14. LSU was ready to rock and roll to another bowl game.
The team went on a slide, finishing 4-7 and 0-6 in the SEC.

Was yelling "We still love you, Jerry" from North Stadium Dorm room window while he was being interviewed on the ground just after his firing.

I was at all home games in 1982 and 1983, especially remember the FSU game when it rained oranges. 83 was a real downer.

Stovall's career as a player gave him a very different legacy.

I lived in West Stadium in 1980, my freshman year and Stoval's first year.

I would say the circumstances of him becoming HC did as much as well.

That too.
By the end of the season, people in upper sections were turning pages of programs into paper airplanes and launching them. One stayed in air for several minutes.
