how many 40+ yard runs did scott have against BCS competition? honest question

I don't know, but why didn't KW, Toefield, JV, ect not break off as many 40+ runs against non BCS competition?

The point is, it takes some degree of explosion to break off 40+ runs. Decent 1AA schools and bad 1A schools aren't full of DBs and LBs that run 5.0 40s. There are athletes out there. Joseph Addai didn't go out there behind good OLs and bury into the ground every small school he played against.

So you can't pass of what Scott did accomplish as absolutely nothing.

That's about what fullbacks run. If someone needed a good power back, he'd be a good option. Kinda like an Alstott who could play either position.

keiland didn't get that many carries when we went into "play the bench" mode

JV had big runs against big competition

i don't remember 1 against top competition by Scott. and how many did he have in his career? like 3? maybe?

I'll just do 2008, which is admittedly by far Scott's best year. But even alone it looks better than any slower RB has done at LSU consistently breaking big runs.

Scott had 5 runs of 39 yards or greater in 2008. (One against UGA)

He had 4 more between 30 and 35 yards. (One was against Auburn, one was against Alabama.)

That is good explosion for a big RB.

Moreno ran a 4.61 and so did Beanie Wells last year...a 4.67 for a 240lb RB is good. Scott is bigger than both.

Why do LSU players seem out of shape most of the time?

Why is everyone making excuses for Scott? He's slow, big deal.

I don't think they are out of shape, but rather just don't excel in combines like some would think, but what I do think is that LSU football players are real football players that you can depend on in the NFL, just look what Doucet has done this year with Arizone, toughest receiver by far on that team.

Watching the running back drills at the combine now. Scott just took a hand off, cut left, slipped and the ball flew into the air

Jamal Lewis was one of the top 10 RB's in combine history, IMO.

He is not that slow, most of the recievers were 4.6 guys and weight 180-200 lbs. I mean with the exception of the elite speed guys he hasn't done that bad. I can't remember what analyst was saying it (maybe marshall faulk) but he made a good point, when these guys get on the field its a whole different running situation. No looking down at the ground for 20-25 of the 40yds like track athletes. Your running with your head up and deciding on cuts and blocks. Golden Tate ran like a 4.3something and they said on the field he runs like he runs 4.5ish.

I disagree about LSU kids in the NFL..Doucet did not do Crap for 2 years until the playoffs this year...Dorsey, JaMarcus.. Buster Davis...jury still out on Tyson Jackson.

I agree...especially if his 10 and 20 second splits were good.

that's fine, you have the right to. Dorsey has been playin on one leg since being drafted. Bowe is a pro bowl receiver if KC ever gets a QB. Davis continues to have injury issues, and Doucet went to a team loaded at WR, but has fought his way to the top. I only agree with you on JR and Jackson, but both have talent, they just need to play up to their abilities.

Did you see break away speed while he was running the ball for the last 4 years. When healthy, he is just a tough average running back. He might be able to play fullback on some teams but I don't think that he has the athleticism to be a great back in the NFL. But he was a good college back when he was healthy and had a hole to run through.

Chuck running a 4.67 doesn't hurt as bad as LaFell running a 4.59

Marion Barber ran 4.7 so did T.D. Do not kid yourself teams look hard at the 40 and they usually shy away from guys like Scott in the first two rounds. A great 40 time would have help him make a few more dollars but he will still get his shot. Charles will be drafted on his body of work. I think we will come of the board between the 3rd or 5th and bring great value to whoever selects him. He is a violent & dependable runner who packs 240 lbs with enough speed to get the job done. At 4.67 he is as fast or faster as many of the other power backs in the league. I do not see him moving to full back unless it is a Le’Ron McClain / Heath Evens type move where he doubles as the short yardage back. Don’t beat yourselves up about it, I'm sure Charles is sorry for letting all of you down.
