LSU went into a nickle/dime package after the first quarter and completely shut them down.

No. They aren't "running all over us". Besides, they have Manziel, and he's a ball hog that is really good...until he meets a team with the kind of athletes LSU will have on the field. (speed and athleticism)
I don't think going Dime is going to work because they'll run all over us

Faster / quicker linebackers than Bama.

Agree with most of what has been posted. Team speed and, the biggest thing IMHO, was Chavis switching to a 3 man line midway through the game. One of the best examples of making midgame adjustments that I can remember.
Will add that, in the case of Alabama, the fact that A&M got them after they were beat to hell in Baton Rouge certainly helped them. Just one more example of why scheduling matters.

LSU and UF stopped JFF from running. They made him read the defense and pass from the pocket. JFF failed to do this.

This was Malena's 15 yard draw in the 1st quarter.. I've watched it ~10 times and can't understand what the hell happened.
All I got is Reid came all the way up, missed a tackle, and had to chase him down from behind.
and then on the same drive, the 13 yard screen to Malena, Loston just blew the assignment.
Loston then missed his assignment on a corner blitz by Mills to allow an 18 yard run.. Hope that's not a sign of things to come.

guess the question I have, is will last year's scheme work this year?
Not exactly. We lose those two excellent edge rushers, and I think the strength of LSU's line this year will come from the interior, not the outside. Also, I think our secondary is much better this year than it was early in the year v. A&M. So I think Chavis might be more comfortable with some one on one matchups he wouldn't have been last year.
You want to try to go up the middle on this LSU defense? Be my guest. Our tackles should be (key word is "should," I'm speculating of course) awesome. Our LB unit will be the strength of the defense, and I think they will make stops in the second level through whatever holes an offense can find in the middle.
I think our edge guys will be more of a contain against Manziel than trying to actually get to the QB. Once again, I don't think Manziel is a patient player so I'm okay with giving him the extra second. What I don't want is him on the run, making decisions as the play breaks down. That's his world.
I think the principle of "contain" and "make him beat you with his arm in the pocket" will still be there -- but I think we'll go about it in a completely different way. Our defense is built differently this year, and Chavis is truly outstanding at adjusting his scheme to personnel.

Worked once. Why won't it work again?

Last year they stopped using the run game for some reason.
Precisely. They are not great at out thinking their opponents either. So, let's not give them too much credit either.
If we lucked into a scheme that flummoxed TAMU .. good. If they don't run, because stache thinks it'll work and sumlin doesn't good.
TAMU will learn some from last years loss. They may play differently. But a new year, new set of players means last years drama means may not impact this years game as much.

C'mon man. Are you jealous of this kid's success? I actually hope that SEC has some success with this Heisman in the NFL.
I hope other teams use the good nicknames of our players as well. Honey Badger. Freak etc.

2 teams do differently to stop the Aggots better than any other team (including Bama?)
Well, for starters, LSU beat the shite out of Bama the week before they played JFF. Otherwise, I think that one could have gone differently.

See, they've got a good RB committed this year, Brandon williams (was a 4*+ from OU), Trey Williams (speedster), and Ben Malena (legit SEC back). Those guys + TAMU's good OL can equal a shitpile of offensive yards.
Not sure what Moustache's motivation is. But let me guess.
- stache is a secret TAMU fan or
- one of the RBs is related to stache or
- stache bet his house on TAMU and is convincing himself against ranter logic

Just having a discussion and mentioning that we should expect A LOT more from the TAMU running game. they're not recruiting these 4 and 5 star backs to not use them.

Well, Bama needs to work on playing easier schedule then, or separate their only two difficult games.
LSU had to play UF, USC, aTm, Bama then MSU in five straight games.
Gosh, imagine if Bama had to do that in 2011, 2012, or 2013. Things may be different for them.
PS - No offense to you, but that's a piss poor excuse for Bama.

Maybe he likes talking about LSU football. That couldn't be it. It's fun to talk about our big games coming up.

Florida was his first ever college game. LSU did some contain, but also caught some breaks with a couple of picks that bounced off WR's hands. I do think LSU's D with smaller, speed ends helps, but if he's accurate throwing the ball like he was vs Bama, it's harder to contain him running.

Regarding LSU, it looks like Chavis switched to a 3 man DL, but what prevented TAMU from running it down our throat when he did that?
Nothing. That's how A&M plays. Chavis made great adjustments.
That is a general flaw in the A&M air raid offense. Their running game is mostly JFF improvising, and while he is very good at it, it is difficult against fast defenses like LSU and UF. You need a good power running game to beat the better defenses. Urban Meyer learned this lesson, and implemented a FB into his scheme. I honestly don't know if Sumlin has figured it out yet. Sure they feast on lesser talented teams, but without a power running attack, they struggle against teams with good defenses. They simply caught Bama at the right time.
