I could be totally wrong here but I am pretty sure it was a legal block. They guy went low at his legs. Now was it a dirty block? I think any time you go low at someones legs, it is dirty to me. They should change the rules completely, no going down at someones legs. I know it would be hard to police, but so many lineman get injured when they are block low(the knees or lower). Just my two cents.
I don't know if he was totally engaged but a tenn. olineman had his arm either on him or fending and had his attention when the back cut his knees head on. the ref's didn't throw a flag (gee, what a surprise) but the block was dirty and cost him what was shaping up to be a very big year. jmho.

It really is amazing how far knee surgery has come. Look at how great a recovery Ridley made after being hurt in the spring game. two years ago. He player the next season

No, already too many contact affiliated rules.

That hit was a split second from being an illegal hit. Montgomery wasn't "engaged" with the OLineman, but he was faced up to him when Poole launched himself into the knee. If you aren't one on one with the player, that block shouldn't be allowed.

Getting him and Taylor back certainly helps to soften the blow of the big three losses on the D a little bit.

I agree. I saw Sam on campus the other day... It is a scary thought to imagine someone that big running that fast. No doubt he can motor, but if the 4.49 is true - that is impressive.
Dwight Freeney ran a 4.48 at the combine at 6'1 266.
Julius Peppers ran a 4.68 at 6'7 280 at his pro day.
If Mongomery ran a 4.49 at 6'4 250 then you have to put him in the same class (speed wise) as Peppers and Freeney and those 2 guys can fricken move.

2002: Dwight Freeney, Syracuse -- Colts (1st round, No. 11 overall)
Freeney is a great example of how an experienced general manager can sift through the combine and find gold. He is not prototypical in all of the measurables. He is not small, but he is short (6-1). However, the Colts realized a 4.48 40-yard dash time, 37-inch vertical leap and 28 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press were terrific numbers for a 266-pound man. Because of his combine workout, Freeney skyrocketed to the 11th pick and has been a standout for the Colts.
They average out the 2 40 times that the players run and Williams ran a 4.7. Williams is also 6'7.

Let's just say Montgomery ran a sub 4.5 40 prior to the Tennessee game. That's incredible for a 245 lb. DE.
But you're asking me to believe he accomplished this three months post-op from ACL surgery.
I thought SM was the most outstanding performer on the DL up to the point of his injury, and I'm looking forward to him getting back to 100%, but as an ACL replacement recipient, I can tell you this reported time is otherwordly.
Someone is prone to exaggeration.

He should return this fall, but don't expect him at 100% until the following season.

If he's running sub 4.5 forties, this will be his last year in BR

And SM's surgeon would tell you that it generally takes 2 years to get all your speed back (witness Ridley this season 2 years after his repair)

I've been really telling people to temper there expectation from Sam this year. I think he can be the player he was but I'd really expect to see him back in peak form in 2012.

Has gotten 2 more years to play? Will he receive a medical red shirt from the past year? If not, he will be a Sophomore right? So, 3 years to play still.

We should do a little of launching on Poole's knee in Sept.!

Posted on 2/4/11 at 9:20 am to Jake85
if a stop watch was used then you have to add .24 seconds to his time which puts it at 4.73 which still fast for that size.
