"Russell is a great player, a sleeping giant that no one knows about who will make people see the greatness in him," said LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery, who befriended Shepard at the 2009 Under Armour game. "He's the reason why I came to this school. If it wasn't for Russell Shepard I wouldn't have come. He's the reason why I made one of the wisest decisions for myself on and off the field."

Shepard needs a great ovation Saturday afternoon. Dude has done more for the program than meets the eye.

Russell Shepard is one of the best recruits in years. A great person for this program. Would love to see him end his college career in breakout fashion!

I feel bad for Shep, he's put all the work he has for four years in the university and his talents have been squashed. I hope for the best for him

First of all, love what Shep has done for LSU in the ambassador arena. I will say that his slip up last year, derailed what I thought would be pretty great progress. He didn't take care of things off the field and it may have cost him two super productive years. On the bright side, he ALWAYS came to play against Updyke Nation. Big game player.

his talents have been squashed? STFU

He was given a chance to development at a position that gave him the best chance to be successful at the next level and didn't produce.

I wish he would become a graduate assistant, and work his way to a full member of our coaching staff. He is a tremendous Ambassador for the University and he has already proven to be a Great Recruiter!

Regardless of his on field accomplishments he is and has been a tremendous Tiger!

It was pretty obvious very early in his career his best production came from the back field, and he was never going to be a WR.
