Ross Dellenger - Sports Illustrated

quote:

Fifteen years ago, Georgia and LSU met in Baton Rouge with stakes similar to Saturday's meeting. What ensued was one of the most memorable—and significant—afternoons in Death Valley history.

quote:

Over the summer, Skyler Green called LSU with a request. The phones at the LSU football operations center are always buzzing with alums wanting something: tickets, box seats, apparel and, for those still playing, equipment. Green’s request was different. “I told them I wanted to be an honorary captain for the Georgia game,” says Green.

quote:

And now, maybe, it has come full circle. A program that has regressed to its historic mean—eight to nine wins, a nice bowl game and mid-tier SEC finish—is in position to storm back into the championship spotlight with three Top 25 home games in the next month that could make the Florida loss feel like years ago: No. 2 Georgia, No. 25 Mississippi State and No. 1 Alabama. “Every LSU coach has had his game,” Bertman says. “Nick had Georgia in 2003. Les had Florida in 2007. This Georgia game could be it for Ed.”

The more the days go by, the more I read, the more I watch old highlights, the more I believe we can pull this off. We’ve yet to play a full game offensively. If everything comes together, we have a shot.

I really enjoyed it. Brought back a lot of memories.
The fans need to bring it Saturday.
Get boozed up, get loud and stay the whole game.
The weather should be beautiful. Fill up the flask and suck up the traffic for once.

that was just the best day....you still gave a shite about Game Day coming to town, they did it in front of the PMAC where the atmosphere was amazing, especially when the band showed up....then tiger stadium was just fricking electric all day.

skipped saturday morning football practice to attend so had to run my arse off Monday....100% worth it.

Georgia’s offensive staff found a weakness in LSU during scouting that week: When an opponent crossed midfield, Saban would send a blitz and sometimes leave a running back free down the middle of the field. It happened twice that day. “We complete either one, it’d be a different ballgame,” Callaway says.

guess Florida saw this too in 03.

It would not happen once if the game were played 100 times.

I was a freshman. The night of the 2001 sec title game was the exact moment i said “I’m going there.”

This would be awesome. Can anyone confirm if this is happening?

Saban became such a better coach after the NFL experience. Damn shame he ended up in our division.

I really enjoyed that game. The stadium was rocking!
quote:

He had always been told that day games were different, more subdued and tame. So, as Georgia’s team buses arrived at Tiger Stadium around 12:30 in the afternoon, he did not expect to see a man’s bare arse. He was wrong. “People were mooning,” says Callaway, now the offensive line coach at USC. “They were lined up out there from the bus to the locker room, hollering and acting like fools.”

So did Ole Miss and Oklahoma.

Eli hit his guy for a TD, Jason White missed.

Sure found myself smiling at my desk just now as I watched the LSU video with Jim Hawthorne and Doug Moreau.

One of the many awesome things about that game is the crowd reaction after the 90+ yard Ga TD. While many, including me, were thinking "here we go again" the students lead the crowd in keeping the stadium rocking.
That win gave the team so much confidence. After the Florida game they got better and better.
I was more confident in 2003 than I am today but you never know.
