Actually, we played in a bowl game every year we claim a title. However, we have 9 poll titles. Tops in the country.

So true dreaux..I agree...evidently it didnt sit well the way the gameplan was drawn out, seems unrest between the players also in My opinion..Even Bama fans seem starstruck as to the way the LSU team performed for a BCSNCG..they punched LSU in the mouth the opening kickoff and LSU seemed to run home to mommy and tell...Bama fans actually seemed to feel sorry for the LSU fans...wasnt what anyone in the nation who did watch this mugging could have ever imagined would have happened!

Answer: Bama does not claim any national championships before the bowl games. In the early years, there was only 1 bowl - the rose bowl - who supposedly invited the best two teams to play for the "national championship". 4 of Bama's NC's came that way. One title was actually a tie game and so the championship was shared. There was no AP or coaches poll and no guarantee that the best two teams played, but it was the best available at the time and all 4 early titles were won on the field. Those 4 titles (1925 through 1934 or 1935) put southern football on the map. Bama claims 14 titles. 4 pre-date the polls. 9 others were by the AP poll, coaches poll or BCS title game. The NCAA recognizes 12 of the 14 championships claimed by Bama.
