now LSU only wears white jerseys for the home opener and for home games against SEC opponents. For non-SEC home games other than the home opener, LSU wears purple jerseys at home.
that's what I thought...Appy in all-black at 2pm in Tiger Stadium!

it was mandatory for the home team to wear dark jerseys.
I think it still is unless the other team agrees to the change. Dinardo may have gotten that request process allowed. He also pititioned the NCAA to get the double goal post legs back.
At any rate...Saban would not be pititioning the SEC to wear white at LSU. That was my point.

Unlike SEC teams, non-conference teams can force us to wear purple at home by denying our request to wear white. See Oregon State.

What I am saying is that there are two sets of rule, the NCAA and SEC. The SEC amended its rule to avoid what Vandy did to us in '96. The home team decides color jersey and there is no longer any requests to wear white at home. The NCAA rule requires the home team to request wearing white at home.

JustSmokin is right
SEC games = LSU can wear white at home and there is nothing the visiting team can do
Non-Conference games= Other team must allow lsu to wear white.

Makes sense. We wear purple jerseys when we play crappy teams

So...Saban would have to pitition the SEC. Still no link though.
Thanks for the info Smokin'
That would explain why OSU could deny.
Just out of curiosity...When did the SEC change thier rule? Was it in late 90's?

I'm not sure. I was searching the net this morning looking for the year, but no luck.

I can't wait to throw a bag of piss on Nick

Probably a good move on his part....he's got nothing to lose as he is bringing nothing to Tiger Stadium as he knows he is going to lose

The SEC later adopted a league rule stipulating that the home team has sole discretion in determining its jersey color.
Thank you just smokin. How many times do we have to review this before people understand this?

Sounds like an internet rumor. If the rules weren't as stated, specifically that an SEC home team has the choice in a conference game of jersey (white or color), there would be no need to petition for a variance. And it would make no sense to petition for a variance since the purpose of the rule itself is to allow the home team the option. I can't conceive of any reason whatsoever that anyone would petition the conference for a variance on the rule. When at home, LSU doesn't need permission from an opposing conference team to wear white, and there isn't any basis to request the SEC office to grant an exception. End of story.

LSU has to get permission to wear white. Not the other way around.
I think the SEC has its own rule that the home team gets to choose in SEC games. I think you're right about the NCAA rule, that the visiting team gets to decide, but the SEC rule basically means that, in SEC games, the visiting team is obligated to agree if the home team wants to wear white.

Every year.
FYI ... Here is the SEC football rules document I was searching for. The uniform rule is on page 10. I should download this document for future use.

Not that it changes your point any, but isn't the game set for 4pm central?

Spurrier did not pitition the SEC to wear white at TS.
What he did was not honor LSU's request to wear white at home.
No, he didn't. We've worn white at home against Spurrier every time since they changed the rule in 1995. It was a game at Florida when he had the Gators wear white. We wore our gold jerseys in that game.

The rule is for home teams to wear dark. Dinardo did not change the rule. But LSU requests to wear white at home and the visiting team can either honor or deny that request.
Yes, DiNardo did get the rule changed. Prior to 1995, there was no opportunity for the home team to even request permission to wear white. That was the change he convinced the NCAA to make.

The rule allowing LSU to wear white at home has one exception: the visiting team must agree. On two occasions, LSU was forced to wear their purple jerseys at home. The first time was in 1996 against Vanderbilt
LSU did not wear purple against Vandy in that game, although they did deny our request to let us wear white. We wore gold (or more like canary yellow) in that game. You could barely see the numbers on the jerseys.
