well lee is still a variable worth mentioning. he's got 3 more years also. now he may transfer, but i mean he may not. after how miles has backed him, i doubt we revoke his schollie or anything

i thin, our QB position for the next 4 years is going to be like our RB positions: 2 different positions, essentially. we have the "big back" who starts and a speed guy for speed plays. i think we end up with a passer and a runner at QB for different plays/packages

I highly doubt Lee ever leaves, if he was after last year would have been time. I mean I have stated before I respect him for his decision to stay. It shows me he wants to come back and compete and if he does not win then he is not better player. He can be a valuable addition to the team since he is a legit pocket passer.

lee's a raw kid who needed to be shelved for a while. he looks to have that chance now

i don't have high expectations of lee, but if JJ leaves early and lee is sitll around i'm hopeful that crowton has spent those 4 years developing lee into a good QB. it's a coaching situation to me

and i'm not saing crowton did a bad job coaching him last year. lee is just raw. he hasn't played QB that much in his life

...OR, he could win the starting job by outperforming all other QBs on the team. These are all competitive athletes. Competition is good, it makes everyone better. Lee didn't transfer, not because he chose to stay here and be #2 or #3, but because he believes he will win the starting role. Shep came to be the starting QB for LSU because he believes he will earn it, not because Lee tranfers and all other QBs get hurt.

My argument last year was alot of the plays they ran with Lee in game seemed better suited for Hatch/RP. I know Lee has issues of finding his second/third/fourth option and would rely on his arm more than brains. He also had a tendency to throw off his back foot, these are correctable problems with coaching.

Wouldn't him starting at LSU in the Spring, pretty much be like a redshirt anyway? Meaning, he's not really a TRUE Freshman like JJ was last year.

lee showed in a bunch of games (including UGA and UF) that when he's on, he can be dangerous.

that dude would get on rolls and go like 10/11 for 150 yards and 2 TDs in games

i mean UF ended up blowing out LSU, but we were RIGHT THERE until lafell dropped that 1st down in the 3rd quarter (even with our shitty defense and with a pick 6 thrown)

if we had any sort of a D against UF or UGA we could have won either game WITH LEE PLAYING HORRIBLY FOR STRETCHES

our team really went into the tank when the coaches held back the offense. we had scott up the gut, little else on offense, and a shitty defense. accordingly, we lost to arky, almost lost to troy, and got blown out by ole miss at home

Problem at QB is the same as last year.. little experience with some and poor performance with others. With the two QB's that led us in the BCS championsip years, when Mauk and Flynn got to play as underclassmen, they looked good. Remember Mauk's first real game against Tenn??? Lee has been a diaster and JJ still hasn't shown that he can play every Sat in the SEC. RS has no experience. Next year could be a vey bad one at QB.

I don't think he'll be redshirted. Too much talent. However, if he is redshirted, I think the decision to do so would come just a few days before the first game. RS will have to prove himself in training camp.

a. miles protects his starters, so if shep did do this, it would be at least halfway into the year in which he was outplaying his competition

b. shep has a lot of ground to make up. he is a very, very raw passer trying to play a spread scheme. garrett looks to be a very beastly prospect. and other than these 2 major points, we have TWO guys ahead of shep who are both fits for the spread (aka passers) who have 1-2 years of experience in the offense AND starting experience

That's a good point, but participating in the spring is not equivalent to a RS season. Don't get me wrong, it is extremely helpful in the development of a true freshman, and can get him ready to participate as a true freshman. He will be miles ahead of the others who didn't participate. But I don't believe it is the same as redshirting.

I didn't mean this season, necessarily. I was talking about next year, or even the year after that. You were saying that without redshirting he would only have 1 year to play. My point is that he could win the starting job late this season, like JJ last year, or next year, or even the following year.

I think this gets lost in the shuffle.

Also, why does Shepard have to be a traditional QB?? His skills are best suited to play this sort of "Hybrid" position. I don't want Shepard to be a traditional QB b/c IMO his skills would be tremendously under untilized. He should run almost as much as he passes IMO.

2. He is a game-changer with the ball in his hands right now. No matter how they plan to do it(direct-snap, handoff, or pass), when LSU gets the ball to RS he is a threat to score. Why would you leave that on your bench for a whole year?

+1000000 JJ is good with the ball,Shep is GREAT!!!

that means JJ will almost definitely play 3 more years, giving shep ONE year to play a real QB role

I agree with you.

But IMO JJ played a headsy competitive game. But he did not light it up with his arm, I would feel the IF RS can pass adequately and use his mobility/elusiveness there is no reason to crown JJ a three year starter just yet.

Crow and Les have already tipped their hands on what they like to do with QB talent by how RP came into the game and the types of plays he ran. Stress the word, "ran."

RP was effective at running the ball, but I didn't like the idea of how when he'd enter the game, he had a 9-1 chance the call was a designed run.

I doubt that will change when RS subs. How can you say anything bad about JJ? You can't after two games. Nimble, smart, strong, accurate.... we like.

RS, however is faster and more nimble..maybe as strong. RS is pure Top 10 Plays of the Day waiting to happen all over your lookity box for the next 4 years.

I don't think the coaches did a good job of getting Trindon the ball last year. Wasted opportunities. I hope they can figure TH's best strategy along with getting the nuclear rabbit, Russell Shepard into space.

What do ya'll think about RS and TH back for the kickoffs?

RS will put some lbs. on.... that's for sure. I say he'll be 195 by the opener. Chik File's gotta kick in sometime!!

Let's not forget about Drayton Calhoun and the 10.56 he just ran, either!
